                    Hi,
I have recently renewed my DLA.
I am very grateful that it has stayed at the same rate (higher for both), but it has only been given for two years.
Things are worse now than last time and I was awarded three years then.
I am wondering whether it is more to do with the 2013 shake up of DLA and if not, whether I should keep things as they are or get some more information and ask for a reconsideration after seeing the GP's information.
Any input would be gratefully received and absorbed!

My son's MCA & LM was till 2013, so were several people I know who have recently renewed (I needed help to do that form as it was a first application!). I had assumed it was cos they'd review a child as he grows but the fact the adults I asked has the same renewal date makes me think it's to do with the switch to the Universal Credit.
This worries me as it's such a complex area to assess that I can't imagine how they are going to assess so many people at once without making some serious errors, leading to quite a bit of injustice. If you can afford to save any (even if it's £1 a week) I would start now, (I can't) as an insurance.
There's no way they can accurately assess fairly so many adults and children within the timeframes, especially as we all know that amongst the genuine cases there will be worthless losers hamming it up lest they be asked to get off their sponging backsides and find a job! Those most at risk of losing out in my view will be those with "hidden disabilities" such as autism and those with variable conditions like MS or lupus.0 -
And they won't be only assessing dla it will be hb ctb IS ESA wtc ctc and the list goes on. Good idea saving

But I would imagine the date is to do with uc but it's not going to be fully implemented till 2017 it's just starting for new claims in oct 2013. There will be transitional protection, as well if your a chosen group to go over first so you shouldn't lose anything. Fingers crossed !!0 -

And it's those with hidden disabilities, that will be accused of being 'worthless losers hamming it up, lest they be asked to get off their sponging backsides' by people like you, ironically. My son's MCA & LM was till 2013, so were several people I know who have recently renewed (I needed help to do that form as it was a first application!). DLA will not be included in the Universal Credit, as it's not a work benefit. It will however be migrating into the Personnel Independence Payment from 2013.0

My eldest son's DLA came up for renewal just before Christmas and instead of the normal 3 or 4 year awards he was given indefinite so I doubt they're lining people up for 20130

I think you may have hold of the wrong end of the stick.
A period decision means it is fixed for that period and cannot be reviewed unless there is a change in needs.
An indefinite period means that the DWP/DLA can review it at any time as they wish!0 -
Any DLA reward can be reviewed at anytime under the correct payment policy.0

My son is one with those hidden disabilities. Trust me, I'm more than aware of the inequalities within the current system & the judgements the general public can make. I'm also know things under this government are about to get a lot worse for him!
I'm also aware that if there weren't so many !!!!less losers around that have been playing the system for all it's worth for decades then there wouldn't have been the public desire for reform, root & branch of the benefits system.
A sledgehammer is being used, and it's the most vulnerable that are getting caught in the crossfire - I think you completely misunderstood my post.
We need to be working together to try and mitigate the damage, or our old, ill and vulnerable are going to really suffer in the coming years.
It's my understanding that the authorities can do a check of care and mobility claims at any point in the duration of an award, certainly the claimants that reviewed my form had been subjected to spot checks over the years. DLA is one of the most rigorously reviewed and checked benefits.0 -

I have no idea what you are going to attempt to achieve, but good luck to you.My son is one with those hidden disabilities. These new ideas WILL become law, whether you like it or not.
Surely you are not expecting coach loads of OAP's, the disabled and infirm turning up outside Westminster and getting themselves arrested for causing a public nuisance?
And as for the comment earlier about the grey vote. You would be surprised how few from that list actually bother to vote. I for one have never voted in my life and I'm 62!0 -
I have requested a copy of the letter that my gp sent in to see whether there is anything in that which would have altered my award, so we'll see.
Still don't know if it would be better to go for a tribunal or leave things and go through it all again in 2 years, but maybe leaving it would mean I am somehow accepting the way they have done the award.0
