Boiler Problems & Insurance Help

I have a Potterton boiler (5yrs old) which came with the house (also 5 yrs old) which I bought in July. The boiler in the morning doesn't come on 50% of the time and there is a flashing LED which means it is failing to ignite 3 times. So I have to reset and by the time it's warm I'm at work.
My question is do I ...
1. call out an engineer for £92 and not guarantee that it will be fixed
2. Get cover £180 then complain it doesn't start 50% of the time in the 1st month
3. Get cover explaining the problem (which I understand is more expensive)
Also does anyone know, if I pick an option with an initial service, they will correct it on the spot with no extra charge.
Help MSE's I'm getting Cold.!.

Certainly BG will not start cover until they have visited and ascertained that your system is working correctly; and it meets all the latest Government imposed standards.
You possibly will be OK regarding the latest standards with a 5 year old house; but I wouldn't bet on it as the regulations have changed drastically recently - and BG are now simply not allowed to take responsibility unless it meets those standards.
Of course if your boiler is fired up and working when they come they might not discover the fault.
There are mixed feelings about BG. I have had excellent service from them for many years but they get ever more expensive. Others find them poor. So I can only assume it depends on the area.0 -

I am guessing that you own a potterton suprima. These boilers are the bain of my local area and we are always changing the pcb. I have a colleague who worked for potterton. The pcb's are fitted with cheap components and now I think they are on the 3rd upgrade. if like many others try getting some insurance even if it only covers parts. There are several companies who provid e this service.
Pottertons pcb's are not cheap and if you search diy forums you will see the Suprima often rears its ugly head with the pcb fault. Potterton deny this fault ever occurs, obviously....0
