Reepham is a really good high School. It got basically Excellents in the Ofstead report, it has a six form too. None of the places listed are in the catchment area of that school though.

Actually, Reepham is another place well worth looking at, and not just for the school.
  • Hi,

I grew up on a housing estate that borders Thorpe St. Andrew. I certainly would not hesitate in moving to this area if I could afford it. Nice post-war built houses and bungalows on decent sized plots, rather quiet too. Can get to the City Centre by car in about 10 or 15 minutes outside of the rush hour. Also worth considering Sprowston and Old Catton (to the North of TSA).

A friend lives in Easton. She likes where she is and again seems like a decent place to live but one thing of note is that the village does not appear to be on mains gas, iirc.

If I had enough of Norwich City and want to move to a village then Horstead/Coltishall would be on my list (near Aylsham). They are beautiful villages.

Can't comment on any schools as I have no kids.

  • Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply with such useful information!!

Beau I think we have chatted on here before and you where v helpful regarding Wymondham and surrounding areas!!!

Lots of factors to take in - by sounds of it Long Stratton has slipped the bottom of the list (obv never been before) as it does not sound like an area we are looking to bring up our young family in...

Thanks again - any further info from anyone would be greatly appreciated...

  • Just another we are to consider, slightly further afield from Norwich, Dereham?
  • Can someone recommend a lovely village/market town to relocate to in Norfolk? We're seriously considering Holt or nearby. We'll be renting at first so that we can really get to know various places but we want character and charm in the area, not new builds or developments where all the houses look the same.

I love English tea rooms so if anyone knows where a nice area is that has a tea shop and various country shops, I would be so grateful. My husband is English and I'm American so lots of family and friends would be coming to stay and I'd love to take them to a quaint area with character close by.

I appreciate any help. Thank you

Holt is nice but very pricey. I think that Horstead & Coltishall (right next to one another) are nice villages. Not 100% sure if it has a tea shop but they certainly ought to have one. :)

  • Thank you, Matt1977, I appreciate it. I'll be on the lookout for those villages you had mentioned and see if my beloved tea shops are anywhere nearby. Can you recommend any more places we could research on the net? I know this is about Norfolk but am wondering if we should not limit ourselves and see what Suffolk has to offer as well.

I know there are areas to avoid there as well, such as Ipswich and Stowmarket, which I've heard was 'rough.' Can you please tell us which areas in Norfolk to avoid so we don't waste our time?

Many Thanks again. It's difficult when you live way up north (ugh) and don't quite know as much about places as you should do before moving and that's why I am depending on the Internet and kind people such as yourself. We did find the perfect cottage on the Green in Great Hockham but then I got so turned off when I heard how awful that area was.....sigh......oh well!

I know that area very well, although I don't live there. What's wrong with the coast? Anywhere from Sheringham to Mundesley are within 45 mins drive of Norwich.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Hi, GDB2222,

Yes the coast is absolutely wonderful but we thought it would be a bit less expensive to be more inland, plus, we imagine it tends to get very busy and crowded there in summertime. All I am longing for is to live in one of their nice, old-fashioned market towns or villages with that tea room I keep going on about :) where the beauty and charm has been kept intact. You see, it's difficult because we don't get to just hop in the car anytime we want to and really get a good feel for the "perfect" place we'd like to settle. I would love to live in an area where there are some thatched cottages or other small farmhouses with their own personalities and not in a new-build area where everything is the same. That is why I am depending on you for various places/suggestions we can research online. I prefer smaller owned antique or country/clothing shops without betting shops and chain department stores. Norwich is beautiful but we don't need to be right in the heart of a big shopping mall like that since it's easy to get there from just about anywhere.

I hope I am making sense....
