Nokia 6300

I own a Nokia 6300 which is nearly 2 years old, and it has served me well. I use mine for everything, including playing podcasts through my jabra headset for hours. I consider myself as a heavy user, and find my battery lasting barely a day.
In your opinion, should I just replace the battery of invest in a new phone?

Comments

  • In my opinion I'd keep the phone and just get a new battery. If you're loving the 6300 and it's working perfectly other than battery issues, there's no reason to change it!

However, if an upgrade is the way forward the 6303i looks like a tempting prospect.

    Is the 6303i that good?
I was looking at the X2-00.
I went into an O2 store, and the assistant mentioned that sometime it may not be the battery's fault, but the phone, using too much power. I seem to remember, in the days of the old 6600, you could press a few keys and discover which programs were left running in the background, which, at the time when I owned the 6600, was a solution offered to counter the short battery life/heavy usage.
I have to admit that in my relatively short experience of mobile phones, Nokia seems to make great phones, but the batteries are pants, whereas Sony and Samsung make decent batteries, but their phones are not as good.

Yeah I think the 6303i is a good piece of kit! I've always thought of Nokia as having decent batteries, but then it depends on the type of handset. Some of them are very battery life intensive, others barely use a drop of power.

What have you decided in the end? :)

I have a 6300 and think it's a really solid basic phone. Just replaced the battery on Amazon for around a fiver. Why bin the phone for the sake of a battery?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I am very happy with my 6300. I may just go for a new battery. Is there any way of finding out how many programs are left running in the background?
When I had the old 6600, if I pressed and held the menu kee down, a list of open programs would appear.

I have a company mobile. Was a Samsung S7720, the battery wouldn't hold a charge, it kept losing the network so Vodaphone sent me a 6303i as a replacement. That kept saying data packet unavailable (apparently a known problem with this phone), then SIM registration failure every time I received or tried to make a call. Vodaphone sent a replacement, same fault and this one wouldn't charge. They have now sent yet another 6303i as a replacement and it can't find the network..

So to say I am not impressed with the 6303i might be a bit of an understatement.

Oh, and the SIM works fine in the Samsung still, I just can't rely on it long term

With respect, those errors are indicative of Vodafone not setting the phone up properly. Not a handset fault.

The phone is now developing new faults or quirky. It will re-boot itself up without notice, and normally when I am listening to the music player and a phone call comes through. I would not normally mind, but the podcasts I listen too can be 1 hour long, and there is no option for fast forward on the player.
It has now re-booted 3 times in a month.
    Any ideas?
