Are you sure it starts in March & not September? Are you starting from the beginning of a degree or transferring credits? I ask because I can't see any info saying the course starts at any time other than September. I'd be interested to hear about the course.

The application form states September or February start dates. Quite normal for universities to do this now as they adopt the US semester system.

Yes, 2nd semester will be starting soon but on the application form it states that it is a September start unless it states otherwise in the course info. I didn't read it in the course info which made me ask the question :-)
  • I gave up trying to figure out Northumbria Uni years ago. :D
  • Definitely starting from the beginning in March! I was able to access the first materials online today through my e-portal.

I chose Distance Learning because I have 3 kids and I like home study.
Will see where it takes me but I don't see why I shouldn't be a Solicitor at the end of it. I have lots of contacts in that field.

I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

I admire your ambition, but I would be realistic about your chances of getting a training contract once you graduate. However many contacts you may have, a woman with three children is not an attractive trainee. The market is incredibly competitive, and firms want someone who can commit to long hours, not need time off for dependents etc. Unfair, and of course any employer would deny it, but that is the reality of the situation.
    Gone ... or have I?

Now you have access to the course materials skypie, what are they like? What is available online? I'd be VERY interested to know. PM me if you like.

  • Hi DMG Yes I understand what you're saying but the fact is I am not worried about that anyway. I want to do my degree and see where it takes me. I have a habit of landing on my feet so I am not too worried at this stage however unrealistic that may seem :)
I haven't yet got my course work book but the online portal so far is fantastic and has the first three lessons so far and I am half way through the first one. I have a piece of work to submit for 18th March already so can't wait to get my teeth into that! :D Another plus is the whole course is only £3900! Deadline is tomorrow Zziggi if you want to apply!! Come and join me!!

  • Skypie123 ignore dmg24. I have three children, started retraining when the youngest was 12 months old and had another two 'en route'. I have since worked for 12 years+ for 2 of the 4 biggest firms worldwide and I'm now an expert on international tax law and work for a fortune 100 company. Until my recent deterioration in health, I flew around the world by private jet. If you have the stamina, energy and determination to succeed you will get there.

It's bloody hard work but go for it kid!

Big tip: summer internships, paid ones with that. I remember seeing them advertised through my University's career website with top law firms. One in particular selected their trainees from internships.

Go for it. If I listened to the people who told me what I wanted to do was impossible I would still be working in a bingo hall. :D
