Yes they can, any change of tariff/package with VM starts you on a new 12m contract, a fact that they don't exactly highlight.

Mac's correct,a lot of SP's do this now. When I changed my BT call plan,I went onto a new contract, something I wasn't told at the time of changing.

For the sake of clarity. There is no new contract. The VM contract has no termination date, and continues regardless. It is the minimum term that is reinstated after any change, but this affects only the service changed, any others are unaffected.
  • I last changed my TV package in November, and was confirmed that I was out of contract when I called to cancel it a week or so ago.

If you are already out of the minimum term when you alter it, you remain outside of any minimum term, unless they have offered some fab deal.

Hence as of next month I will be locked in again for 12 months.
Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.
