I tookmy car to quick fit about 6 weeks ago for a break check, they quoted me £590, so have been driving my mums car as couldnt afford it.
The MOT was due so i took it to the place my mum goes and they MOT'd it and it failed on a couple of little things the most expensive was replacing the seatbelt. Also failed on something to do with the break lights, i asked them to check the brakes anyways and today they came back with a quote of £268 plus VAT for everything which includes the MOT which was £44.15 so thats £223.85!
I know quick fit are expensive but they have obviously made up loads and were trying to con me!

Well put astonsmummy.
Wasted criticism coming from a person with absolutely nothing to add to the debate.
...and I believe you are a "she" not a "they" as referred to on two separate occasions by grex, I think he should p off somewhere and practice his English :-)0 -
Now then, to return to this thread and the point of this forum - money, not English.
astonsmummy, this is not meant as a sexist comment, but do you have a mainfriend/brother who could take your car for a quote?
It is sad, but true, that some companies will take a flier and bulk up a quote for a female car owner.
qUICK Phitt are known for this - it is believed that their commission system encourages it.
If you have an ATS nearby they have a better reputation for dealing with female owners but the very best is the small independent in a side road - these companies depend on repeat business and word-of-mouth endorsements.0 -
Thnx frankie, i dont really have anyne i could tak with me but the place where i MOT'd my car have seemed to do me a good deal, they are a independant company and my mum goes there alot and i've took a car there before and they said they could fix it but it would be more worthwhile getting a new one so i think they are quite trustworthy.
The most expensive thing to fix on my car to pass the MOT is the seatbelt.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Kwik Fit like Halfords and a few others have a commission based wage structure. The more work you bring in the greater the percentage you get.
I would not touch any of them with a barge pole.
Ask around and try to go by personal recomendation. See where your friends and workmates go.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Hi Astonsmummy.
Are you saying that the car will pass its MOT without work on the brakes? If so the car will be OK until the next MOT. You can save up for the work to be done at a trusted garage, or to change your car if it is not worth it.0 -
I don't understand how *anyone* ever affords to go to kwikfit (sorry if I'm too dumb to spell this correctly, I don't have a photographic memory for trademarks, unlike a certain poster in this thread...;)). Is it all trade custom?
I took my car in a couple of months ago to get two new tyres, they quoted me £550. So, I went down the road to the local guy and had it done for £165.
As mentioned about women, I think it was clear that I (although a man) had no idea what I was after, so I think they thought they could charge what they wanted and I'd just think that was the right amount to pay. I'd already had a couple of quotes for £200-£250 though, so I realised pretty quickly that they were havin a laff.0 -
I have never once heard a single good thing about cuik pfit. I'd strongly advise to always go elsewhere, if no other reason but to get a second quote."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I would like to say that - in my opinion - Kwik Fit are ok. Where I live (South Wales) the local Kwik Fit manager will not only check your car for nowt - tyre pressures etc but also tell you where to go (no not rudely) if you don't want to use Kwik Fit for your repairs - and the garage he sends us too is brilliant! I am sure he gets more business through his doors operating this way!
Well done to this specific Kwik Fit branch - I won't name it because he may get into trouble.0 -
As said, stay away from Quit-fit.
Nice to see the troll banished;)_________________________________________
