Got through eventually, they told me to get an engineers report and send it through - they said they will pay for it, then take it from there

As already said in post #2, call Samsung and explain your problem, i had a similar situation in January and they were brilliant. I had an engineer at my house within 2 days and they fixed it for free there and then.

I agree with this, whilst the contract is with the retailer, sometimes it is far easier to contact the manufacturer directly.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Hi
Has to be worth a call to Samsung.
If the LCD panel is faulty I doubt they are going to replace the TV for you and possibly in that instance you will have to go back to the seller.
There are a number of other possibilities that may cause your picture problem, sadly none are a simple fix.
I write engineers reports all the time and many for companies like Currys, they sell a lot of TV's so it will look like a lot are faulty.
Sadly these are often for sets just out of the 12 month warranty.

If you know your rights, get an engineers report and are polite but firm you will get the required results.

    regards

    Trevor,

Thanks for that, have had an engineer round this afternoon who has confirmed that its faulty.

Its all going though Very, have spoken to there customer excellence team who stated that they will pay for the report and the repair if its a manufacturing fault.

If the repair is not economical to the set - what happens then ??? Will they still repair regardless ?

They'll probably offer a replacement or partial refund, whatever is the cheapest option.

We live in a world of disposable electronics.

A TV that cost £1000 about 15 years ago would easily be expected to last as long as 10 years.

Thesedays the picture is less clear - but its probably not much more than 4/5 years I would imagine.

Back in the day they would repair something even if it meant a couple of visits - thesedays with so many costs its easier to just replace or refund for a broken product and bin it.

In your situation if they don;t repair it they may just offer you a refund minus the time you have enjoyed the TV- you could argue the TV lasts only 50% of the time you expected it to and therefore should get 50% of the money back.

In reality you will prob get far less.

On the plus side, electronics advance and come down in such a fast pace that you could probably buy a better TV nowadays for a lot less.

Well, fair due to very they have been no problem at all...they have offered me a full refund less a years watching, this is the only part I am disputing as the figure is currently at 20% which im not too happy about, after re working things out ive watched the tv for no more then 2000 hours. Personally I do not see this as 20% of the tvs life.

This is the fault I had, this is not my TV by the way, just one I found when looking on ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Samsung-46-LCD-Television-LE46B650-Minor-Fault-/260746376201?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_Video_Televisions&hash=item3cb5b1f409

Samsung on the other hand were useless, the chap who I first spoke to was not interested and referred me to an engineer to fix at my cost, the second person who called me from there "satisfaction" team, just said o well im sorry you not happy and left it at that ! quite laughable really

I might send them an email as a result of this to show my disatisfaction !! doubt it will get me anywhere though !
