Hi all,
I own a Samsung LE46B650 and it was purchased in sept 2009 - over the past week or so it has developed black lines down the right hand side of the screen.
Now paying 1000 quid + for it, i wouldnt expect it to be faulty in such a short time, to be honest, cant imagine its been used anymore then 3000 hours.
On speaking to very (where i purchased it from) they said nothing they can do - speak to our repairs team.
Spoke to them they said we will charge for coming out and repairing it.
Now checking online seems a similar fault occured and the panel was faulty ie beyond economical repair....where do i stand ??
Can I go down the route of sale of goods act etc ??
Cheers
Matt

Samsung were excellent when I had a tv go wrong that was 9 month out of warranty, it was also a common problem that they knew about and came and repaired it 2 days after I rang, And for no charge, give them a ring, be polite and you may get a pleasant surprise.
Good luck:beer:0 -
sorry just about to log off, you have 2 yr or even more warranty under sales of goods act, just search on MSE or google it. most companies try to get out of it but keep pushing and the law is the law after all.0

Cheers, am certainly not one for ranting down the phone :-) ...so will be polite and see where we go - from speaking to a friend they suggested that the part that has gone wrong is around 90% of the value of the tv so he said they will probably need to write the tv off, we shall seePay One Debt 2012 Challenge #62 Next £10.65/£4100 -

However, as this is a directive is only partially adopted by the UK, its use is a grey area.
Technically you have 6 years to claim (5 in scotland) but this does not mean that you have a 5/6 year warranty. It depends on varying factors and while i agree any remedy should be provided by the retailer, sometimes the path of least resistance is via the manufacturer.
They did not adopt the directive in full in the UK because it was deemed the SOGA already provides better protection than the directive. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

totally agree.
More information, I used the act to get a refund for the grandparents freeview recorder that had gone a week out of the 12 month period from Currys and wouldnt record. Their help line told me straight away that they would refund but instore it was a different matter, nearly 2 hours after entering the store, I left with a full refund and the actual original purchased item, which still worked but wouldnt record so in effect they got a freeview box for nothing.
