SCS Furniture - Mis-sold and no where to turn.

Hi All,
I bought a settee and foot stool from SCS in January and finally had it delivered today, but despite checking 4 times in the store that the foot stool has a lift lid and storage and being told yes, today it has arrived and is a fixed lid. I am happy with the settee, but want a refund on the foot stool. I rang the store and explained the mix up, to receive the response of the receipt says "standard foot stool" so you can't have a refund. I explained that how am I to know a standard foot stool isn't an opening one... I didn't really get an answer. When I approached the fact that I had been told it did open on 4 separate occasions, the managers (he sold it to me) response was "Well I don't remember saying that, and it is your word against mine, and I am the manager!" I have tried contacting CS and they have said speak to the store. No one will give me head offices number. I then mentioned trading standards and the trades descriptions act and and his response was I know trading standards quite well so I will have a chat with them for you! My dad is a cllr in the area where the shop is and he is speaking to the head of trading standards for the town tomorrow morning, so hopefully that might help.
I want to know where I stand. I feel like I have been completely done over here. I think that under the sales of goods act that because I was told the foot stool did something that it didn't I should be entitled to a refund.

Did you get it in writing that the footstool was one that opened? otherwise it really is your word against theirs.Thinking critically since 1996....0

No I have nothing in writing, it just says "standard foot stool" but I was told a standard foot stool opens.0

SCS are shocking, you wont get anywhere with their head office, I have a seperate issue with their SHODDY furniture and have basically been laughed away by their head office, even though trading standards have sided with me. So Its small claims court for them... all this bad press over something that would cost so little to them to fix. Iv learned my lesson, and wont buy my next sofa from SCS. The salesmen LIE. The furniture is shocking (ours is just one year old and has had repair visits and is so uncomfy to sit on)
Good luck OP, but think you too will probably need the small claims court.0 -
Return it under DSR.Wedding 5th September 20150

Seems like he ordered it in their shop though, are you sure that DSR applies to that ?0 -

OP, why do you want a refund?
Surely the best solution for you would be a foot stool with an opening lid.
Just maybe they would be happier doing an exchange rather than actually parting with money.0 -
scs sold me guardsman sofa protection with my sofa telling me it would cover my sofa against any spills rips etc and I could get the sofa clean using this policy. I've just tried to use this policy and half of what I was told isn't covered and they wont clean the sofa only visible stains they don't come out they send you a stain remover. £200 for a policy that posts out stain remover I was told I could get it professional cleaned0
