I am having a problem changing internet provider. I am with Pipex (originally Toucan) and wish to change because of being disconnected from the net frequently. I have tried Primus, Talk Talk and Sky and each have a problem with my postal code not tallying with my telephone number. After being on the phone for over 3 hours, and having been advised to contact BT to update the data, I am informed by BT that they DO have my up to date postal code on their records, but this is still NOT showing when checked by the new provider. I seem to be caught in a catch 22 situation and not able to move or look for a cheaper alternative (I am a pensioner on pension credit – ergo very low income ) would be most appreciate of some sort of advice. Thank you.

Do an exchange search on www.samknows.com and look for your LLU providers, they will be the cheapest on your exchange.
You could also look at Plusnet as a possible non-LLU provider: £6.40pm if you are on a Market 3 exchange.
Contacting TT is rather a waste of time, as that's who you are already with (they absorbed Pipex over a year ago).
I don't see how your postcode can be linked to your phone number in that way, as you could take your phone number to another address (and another postcode) in the same exchange area? All you normally need is a recognised postcode.
What happens when you try to sign up online?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
