Well in the store it lists at £20 down to £13.99 - I would never pay that for it!

What other foods do you recommend? Any other good deals?

It depends entirely on your budget... I feed my dogs on Burns and nature diet and raw, it's a premium food, but there's other's i would feed if I was on a tighter budget.

Personally I wouldn't feed any food with wheat in it, it's far to likely to cause malabsorbtion problems and the itchies IMHO.

So on a lower budget i would go for a wheat free working food like skinners dusk and rice or Autarky, both of which are vat free beacuse they are working foods, Burns also do a VAT free food Alert ;) For dogs with full grain allergies, or in need of a much easier digested diet, there's also a number of vegetable and protien based foods.

I sell all the known brands, including Pro Plan if my customer asks me for them, but it doesn't mean I like them lol and if i am asked for advise on alternatives in that price range or lower I will always stear folks towards an easier digested kibble or wet combination. Cause your dog eats something voratiously doesn't mean it's the best food for them ;)

If anyone ever wants any help with foods, please feel free to ask, I'm an independant seller, and work in a small geographical area so have no vested interest in advising on a specific brand, and the likely hood of me working in your area is very small, so it's only advice i can offer ;)

Whats ur opinion on the Wainwrights food that Pets At Home sell? I believe its their own brand. Have to be careful what i feed one of mine - tried him with burns once and he got a bad reaction and both his ears swelled up and he now has a patch of dead skin cells on both ears as a result.

Aww poor wee soul :( Has your dog got a diagnosed condition? Do you know what caused the reaction to the Burns, and what variety was it?

Wainrights seems like a fairly good food, it's not full of additives and preservatives. I haven't analysed it's makeup, as I don't sell it. But, I know a fair few owners that's dogs are doing well on it. If your mutley is one of them stick with it, you could feed an awful lot worse ;)

The pet food market, is a mine field, there are some supposed premium food that when you analyse the constituents are very far from a superior food, and a fair few cheaper brands that have cut down the profit margin and providing a good balanced alternative at an affordable price ;)

Personsally, I want my customers to get the best they can on their budget, so no point in me trying to converty everyone to a handful of expensive brands, however,I refuse to suppy only a few foods one of which is bakers, and look at the media bandwagon that runs that one though into the public consiousness as THE food to feed your dog!

Thank you - wanted to see what u thought before admitting to feeding them Wainwrights for 2-3 months now, they used to have Nature Diet but hads loads of problems with it ie blown packs (3 in one box!) and their Customer Services is appalling. Biscuit wise they used to have a complete working dried food called Kennelgate Breederpack - less then £10 for a 15kg bag and they really liked it - i recently got some Wainwrights dried food heavily reduced from PAH and they really really like it. The one that reacted to the burns is quite difficult with food, he cannot handle some fish products but never found out what it was in the Burns that affected him, when they were younger i gave them Bakers and took me two weeks to stop them being sick - will never touch it again. Everyone comments on how nice their coats are so can't be going too wrong. The youngest gets quite itchy and constantly gets eaten alive by field mites etc so she has Yumega Oil and i've found a fantastic shampoo and she's gone from being a dog that hates water to a dog that sits and waits for a bath when we come back from a walk!
    thanks for your help.

  • FWIW nature diet seems to have sorted the blown pack prob, I had droves of them too. Wainrights wet packs get a good name, give them a try ;) Yumega is a great suppliment too, good for you taking the time to do right by your hairy pals :)
  • Hello,

Is there anything particular about the Purina One Cat food that makes it not ideal...?

I have two cats, one who will happily eat anything going that is only two years old and then a ten year old very fluffy mog... she too will eat anything going but will be very sick within about ten minutes, with the exception of a few foods (For the record the vet has run all sorts of tests and cannot find a reason behind this). We were feeding her Sheeba pouches but they were costing a fortune (not that I mind) and the vet said they weren't Ideal for her teeth... anyway I have recently read some reviews on Purina One Sensitive from people with long haired cats who seemed to have been having similar problems and had suggested it had worked for them. Two weeks in on a diet solely of Purina One Sensitive... and no sick.

Do you know of anything better that is suitable for sensitive tummys?

    Thank you

TBH you answered your own question, your cat is doing well on Purina One, it obviously suits her system. I have a couople of customers with persians with digestive issues, one is on Purina One and doing great, the other is on Royal Canin 30, a specialist Persian diet, and doing great, he did very poorly on the Purina, as well as James Wellbeloved and Burns... it's horses for courses, what suits one is poison for another unfortunately.

I have two chow dogs, and my !!!!! is like your cat, has terrible gastric probs due to having various health issues. She's the reason i got into the pet food business, and I have now also developed and sell hypoallergenic gourmet dog treats as there was absolutly nothing on the market she could digest!

Back to your cat though, if you can find a wet food that agrees qwith her feed her one meal a week on this, as many cats fed purely on dry develop bladder crystal, this single meal tend to alleviate the problem developing ;)

Thank you - its the wet trays they are on - much easier for me to buy as had problems getting ND in my area but my local PAH always stocks the wainwrights or can get delivered to home (despite them putting price up twice since xmas) - tried the eldest on senior but didn't agree with her and they took the unused trays back no quibble. Big lad has joint aid too - he also goes to hydrotherapy. They don't have many shop bought treats - i make my own Tuna Garlic treats for them and eldest sits beside oven waiting for them to cook!

    Hmmm,

Well i googled the Pro Plan 3kg foods and the lowest price you can get them for is £10.
So, no where close to £20 :(
    Confused still....

But, think we're saying theyre £7 each if you purchase 2.

10% off for first time buy also.

Buying 4 plus a small item meets minimum free delivery charge.

    No quidco

To say theyre normally £20 each is very incorrect tho.

Is there a code for the 10% off.
