Been refilling my cli-8's for a long time. Usually the original ink spec is not available so try different inks and see how it looks0

If they are chipped, then they won't work unless you can find a chip resetter for them.Never Knowingly Understood.

They will still work, just you won't get an indicator when they are running out.
OP, I have refilled those models, they are fine but I would pay for the real thing. Too messy, unreliable etc.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I use the Argos refill kit on my Canon cartridges - excellent !0

will supply refilling instructions as well as inks for a large range of cartridges"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
Personally, I'm not a big fan of refills - I find them to be messy.
Watch out for some newer printers as they actually have the ability to detect if the seals have been broken and will refuse to print refilled cartridges or 3rd party 'compatible' cartridges. In my experience, Lexmark have been especially bad at that recently.0 -
The cheapest refill kits I`ve seen are at Home Bargains, coloured £1-990

Their sales are taking a kicking on the back of it.
Dirty, messy, unreliable business, refilling. Results are alright at best, throw your printer away at worst. Don't even think about it if you've got a photo printer.
Continuous ink systems are worth looking into if you do a lot of printing.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
I used to refill my Lexmark ink cartridges all the time, as they cost more than the printer. I've now got a HP all-in-one, and can usually manage to buy cartridges cheaply online, so haven't bothered refilling yet.
I used similar to this. Not the cheapest, but quality ink, and does the job well.0
