Would they grant you holiday if you asked for it? That way not only do you leave when you want, but you get out that bit quicker...
I suppose to ask, would be the only way to find out. However, had I asked and they'd refused, it would have been far too much of a coincidence for me to "be ill" on thursday and friday.

As it stands, I'm now off sick, oooh, I feel a bottle of nice wine coming on!

Four years ago I worked for the biggest bunch of rip-off merchants on the south coast. Didn't know that at the time, especially as I had known the two 'directors' for over 20 years and one is my eldest daughters godfather!!

After working there for two months I knew I couldn't do it anymore, as I had been struggling with their work methods almost from day one. Went in one Monday, sat down, realised if I didn't do something then I would explode. So went to the pair of them, gave them their car keys and told them to put the keys where the sun doesn't shine and walked out. An hour later one of them called me at home and said I would never work in the industry again.

Found my current job (in the same industry) two weeks later and couldn't be happier.

Actually met them at a trade show last year and they couldn't face me.

Good for you OP, from what you say I doubt they would worry about letting you go

Just to update those who may be interested.

Well, my new job is heavenly. I can't believe how nice everybody is. I'm not used to it! They keep asking me how i'm doing, can they get me anything etc. Talk about from one extreme to another! I'm very very happy in my new job.

Checked my account today online, and the funds from my cheque have cleared. Therefore, tonight, i'm going to write a short letter to explain I wont be coming back and the reason. I'm going to tell them i've found another job and ask them to send me my P45. I will post the keys in the evelope with the letter and drop it first thing through their door.

I rang the receptionist today (who I trust) and she said they've been going ballistic. Every day something is said, such as, "She could have had the common decency to say she wasn't coming into work and why". or... "has she phoned yet? - no? this is ridiculous!". So will put them out of their misery now... (they still think I might come back).

A couple of family members have told me i've been really unprofessional and cruel. That it will create bad karma for me. However, the way I see it - it was payback for the hell they put me through over five months. You would only know how bad it was if you lived it.

So... a happy ending :D. Good luck to anybody else who is going through or is thinking of taking these steps.
  • This is inspiring! Planning to do exactly what you have done. treated like crap, forced to sell and push customers into buying products. Never getting any positive feedback. i sooooo cant wait to do it. I've got it all planned.. going to write my resignation, hand it to one of the managers, after they have done something particularly rude/bullying and say "do one"!
Theres no point working for a**holes!
Good luck with your future ;) i hope to follow in your footsteps one day

It would be interesting to see if there was any fallout from your letter - have you had any response from your resignation? I hope that things are all just as well for you in the long term!

yep as Kellogs says it would be interesting to know what has happened re any fallout. And it seems that since you left you had no contact for quite a few days, is that the case?

    Hi there.

Update. I wrote them a letter apologising for not giving them any notice and that I am not coming back. I told them in the letter that I would not be claiming any holiday pay owed to me due to the inconvenience I may have caused them.

I enclosed the keys to the office and I thanked the office manager for giving me the opportunity in the first place.. (well, no need not to be polite).

Then.. I kept the letter in my glove box for a few days... was too cowardly to post it through the letterbox before work incase anybody was early and caught me, and too cowardly after work because a lot of people work late.

Anyway, on wednesday 2nd, exactly one week after i'd quietly walked out, I received a letter (dated 1st march) saying roughly the following:

    Dear

As you have not shown up for work since last thursday, we can only conclude that you no longer wish to remain in our employment.

We would be grateful if you could return the keys to the office and confirm that you will not be receiving any further payment.

    Yours sincerely

WELL, that soon prompted me to drive to the office at 11.00 pm that night and post the letter (with keys) through the letterbox!

Since this, i've heard nothing further. I'm continuing to be happy in my new job and i'm constantly amazed at how decent companies treat their staff... I am one happy bunny.
