I can't see them stopping the cheque unless they hear from me telling them i've left. I think I ought to withhold that email until the Monday. Its a tough one. Then of course, I could say that I waited till monday as your email system was down anyway. I was going to let you know sooner.. etc. etc.
I agree.....0 -

I doubt they will chase me for that. But you never know.
Well, you say the owe you ten days holiday which they are legally obliged to pay so they will still owe you eight when the cheque has cleared.0 -
I know how you feel, ive been in current job for 2 years nearly and i hate it to bits, its worst job ive had for various reasons,0

well done in finding a new job, I hope it works out for you and is everything you expect it to be!
It must be a great feeling being able to leave like that - in saying that, I hope there aren't any consequences for your actions. All the best!0 -
good for you!!!!!! I did the same but i really didnt want to, but i was treated really really badly. it just got worse everyday so i just said 'BYE' one day and the shock on their faces made it bittersweet!
I never worry about the reference thing coz u dont always 'have to' use previous employer.0 -

Is not correct. They can sue for breach of contract and costs and losses that arise as a direct result of that breach. Suing for breach does not require the defendant to submit a prior claim.0 -
As they already owe the OP 10 days holiday they'd get nowhere as they'd probably be told to take those days off from any outstanding amount. The OP obviously hasn't taken any holiday in those 5 months to accrue 10 days anyway.
I'd pay for express clearance of the cheque if you can. They seem to have other solvency issues so you're best out of it anyway. I'm sure they'd use any trick in the book to avoid their legal obligations if they could get away with it so it seems only fair an employee treats them with the contempt they seem to deserve.0 -
Would they grant you holiday if you asked for it? That way not only do you leave when you want, but you get out that bit quicker...0

Hi all,
I couldn't leave yesterday, as they didn't pay us. (something to do with the email system being down, though Lord knows what that has to do with anything!). Anyway, got my cheque today mid-morning. Was really tempted to leave at lunchtime, but I didn't. Did a full day's work as usual, giving it my all. Then just left.
It feels SO GREAT! Boss was really awful today, moreso than on an average day, and being guilty - I thought he might know about my plan. Anyway, I'm sure he doesn't.
So, I wont be going back. Tomorrow I will pay in my cheque, phone in sick and then email on Monday to say I wont be coming back. Fingers crossed they don't stop my cheque.0
