The aldi veg is great - we had the brocolli last night and it was really fresh. The carrots were huge but again very fresh and seem to have lasted well.

  • Have found a bag of of porridge oats in a tin that hasnt even been opened and a bag of flour that i hadnt used.. so have saved some more money!! might make some of twinks hobnobs with these for pack lunches and something for the kids to snack on.!!

Now that's a wonderful discovery! Please be warned: once you have made Twinks HobNobs you'll be hooked on them forever. They're the crack-cocaine of the biccy world. I've made several different variations of these substituting some or all of the oats/marge for muesli, coconut, peanut-butter and Nutella. You and your kids will most likely never need to eat a different biscuit ever again. I've been toying with the idea of making a savoury version with cheese and/or pesto but am not sure what the consequence of omitting the sugar might be. Still, as the ingredients are dirt-cheap or can be, I daresay it might be worth a go when I have an idle moment.

I used to always have dried milk in the house as I use so very little of it, but if you're short on cash and using milk for cooking then I'd invest in a box.

Make up a pint in an old milk bottle and chill it, doubtful anyone will notice the difference once its cold or when its in a bowl of porridge.

Another cheap meal is macaroni cheese, I've made this with a packet of cheese sauce before, add a bit of mustard to help improve the flavour.
  • ive made twinks with coconut and cocoa before they were sooo moreish.. but so not good for my waist line!!.. think i'll make a batch of them up tonight..
good idea bout macaroni cheese.. i think ive got a pack of cheese sauce in with my spices. dont need to use that this week now as im pretty much covered but for next week maybe i could use it and pop a bit of bacon in with it to..

    I've been Money Tipped!
I wouldn't bother with wet wipes, you can make reusable wipes yourself from an old towel or buy 2 packs of face cloths from the £1 shop (mine do packs of 8 cloths) store in a clippy box with water and a touch of oilatum (or weak baby wash).
  • wow i just saw this post when browsing through and you have all really inspired me. so thankyou and good luck charleybabes x
