    Even so, it's always good to see any manufacturer digging into his pocket and acknowledging they have a problem.

    Fair play to BMW. In fairness a noisy pump doesn't make a car dangerous -- I've had that one before on an old nail -- it's just an irritant.

    It's not just the noise though it's when the power steering finally fails that can be dangerous. Other people have said that they've gone up onto kerbs and lost control on roundabouts.

    True, but you do get fair warning before it siezes. If you're stupid enough to ignore things like this (and you clearly aren't), then I have little sympathy.
