George my cat, we have not long found out has a heart mumor, which may or may not develope into something when he's older (he's only 3).
George finds the vet so stressful his heart races & he gets anxious. At home he's laid back & calm.
I guess I have George in mind when I think of on-going medical intervention - which George would find stressful.
As for tablets:eek:
I'm scared I'll break his jaw worming him:(
Thing is, he's so gentle, that no matter how stressed & scared he is, he won't fight when getting his pill:smileyhea
Personally, I think you should take the fact he won't fight you over a pill as a positive sign - I'd say it indicates that although he finds the process unpleasant (and who wouldn't!), he trusts you enough to know you wouldn't subject him to anything like that unnecessarily. I know some people think it's just rose tinted spectacles to attribute that kind of thinking to an animal, but I've had more than enough experiences in my lifetime to convince me otherwise.
You may find it helps to 'practice' to get him more comfortable with it - my cat has canine tooth with a broken off tip, and every now and again I like to check her mouth to make sure it's OK and her gums are healthy. Like George, she just lets me do it (a bit of squirming, but never a fight) - and then treats followShe also lets me towel her down thoroughly when she comes in wet - to the extent that sometimes she'll deliberately go in and out several times in the hope of getting more treats even though towel down isn't her favourite pastime - but only when it's wet, as she knows she does't get anything when coming in dry, the sneaky kitty! :rotfl:
I'm also thankful that she doesn't seem to mind the vet, and appears not to notice injections at all - even the microchip went in without so much as a whimper.
Anyway, the important thing is that you care about George enough to think about this kind of thing and put him first, so trust yourself to do the right thing, eh?

Chose Petplan in the end! Realised after a while why I couldn't get a quote from Axa, for some reason it wasn't accepting when I put in Short haired domestic, had to put Moggy. But for now he's a petplan cat, and if we don't have to claim for anything etc this year and the premiums go through the roof, i'll be doing the same search in a years time!DFD February 2012

This is what I don't understand about the all singing all dancing policys.
If god forbid, your pet gets a serious on-going condition, isn't it kinder to have them PTS, than subject them to years of on going medical treatment?
Isn't per insurance that covers a sudden emergency what people (& pets) really need?
I disagree.
I got a 4 year old cat a few months ago and took out the Sainsburys' cover for the per condition per year thing. A month after taking out the insurance, my cat started to get sores on her forehead. Turns out she is allergic to something and needs tests to work out what it is. So far we have paid ~£1000 and more to come.
Apart from a small operation, the tests haven't been invasive. She's not in pain (a little itchy) and her quality of life is still fine. The vet said that she may need ongoing treatment for a few years to control her allergies, so we need this "all singing all dancing" policy. Are you saying I should PTS because she has a few allergies?? :mad:That's almost the same as saying a human should be killed because they have hayfever!?
So a) Insurance is important because a £1000 after a month of having her is quite a lot and we couldn't have self-insured.
and b) Not all animals should be PTS because of an ongoing health problem
Oh and:
My vet recommended Petplan over Sainsburys because when there is a problem, the vet isn't allowed to phone Sainsburys but Petplan have a vet line. So Petplan are much easier to claim with.0 -

Even if you've signed up for this year you should check out Argos Platinum (nnoe of their other ones seems any good)- they 're all-singing all-danciong but a lot cheaper than petplan etc, and the online reviews sem very positive. If you've paid to join petplan you may be entitled to change your mind at this stage. Check it outThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Not really. If your beloved 2 year old dog got something like exzema or dry eye which are lifelong conditions, would you really put them down? (One of our dogs has £47 a month ointment for his dry eye).0
