Not quite the same, but my dh cleaned out the back of our fire and managed to get a load of soot on the stone coloured rug! I got it out with the Zanto carpet cleaner foam from poundland. Great stuff.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

get off as much as you can with the vacuum - then a bit of ordinary soap on a nailbrush to get the residue off. sponge with a damp sponge and it SHOULD all come out! this is what my mum did and I did it too back in the 'olden' days when we had coal fires!0
