Nat West- complete lack of trust VERY ANGRY

Am SO angry. Went to ATM this morning as this weeks money should have been in.No money in(DH is a supply teacher at mo-hence weekly pay) Came back, rang wage office(its an "in house" supply office )who agreed that the money had not been paid (didn't seem to think that was in any way a problem) told me to contact school in question and so on and so on. You get the picture. Anyway contacted Nat West to inform them of the situation-they were SO unhelpful. Things didn't want to know. Wouldn't increase the overdraft for 1 week. "Because of the nature of your employment"!!!!!!! AND have returned a direct debit as unpaid as of this morning. Also left in no doubt whatsoever that they will NOT pay the other two due out before next Thursday. Am really mad. Background is that DH opened the Nat West account in 1993(prior to going to uni) and has only gone over the agreed limit ONCE which was for less than £5 over the course of a weekend. We repaid that on the Monday. Since the illness we have been ultra careful and have ALWAYS kept them informed of EVERYTHING. He has been working at this school and with the exception of last week (when it was the week after a half term holiday the money has gone in without fail. Whilst I'm really worried and angry about the situation I'm even more angry about the bank virtually calling us liars. And as for the Direct Debits..............Well.. They expect you to be loyal to them but my god when you need them...forget it. Anyway thanks for letting me let off steam.

I know I've already said this on another thread Annie but just wanted to offer my support and say how sorry I am that you are in this position.

Can you try calling them again and perhaps speaking to a different person? I find with call centres sometimes it's a matter of ringing and ringing until you find a sympathetic ear...

Is it possible to borrow the money from a relative or friend to cover the two direct debits at least? it's only short-term until the pay comes through which shouldn't be long by the sounds of it...

What are the DDs for? Can they be stopped temporarily until the money comes in?

At the very least, reclaim the charges they give you for the unpaid DDs. And tell them you'll do that when you speak to them!
  • Oh anniestar I know exactly how you feel. This is why I am with an outside agency rather than the local authority one. I was sick of not being paid and the schools blaming the LEA and the LEA blaming the school. With my present agency you do have to 'suck up' to her a bit but even if the school dont submit your form the will ring you to check you did it and then pay you and chase it up themselves with the school.

And as for banks - just dont get me started.!!!!!!! I never admit to anyone official - eg banks or cc etc that I'm supply cos they take a very different attitude, even when you have a longterm contract.

You have my sympathy, perhaps now would be a good time to start looking for another current account so you can ditch nat west and tell them exactly why. I did it with barclasy and I felt so good afterwards.

Annie that is awful, the school must be at fault too for not paying when they should, we rely on being paid on a certain day and when it falls through, it can cause serious financial difficulties. They must have some back up plan, can they not pay him with an emergency payment like a cheque?

    Hugs to you hun

They are horrible. Have to say, I switched from Natwest a few years after one mistake after another. The final straw was when they sent me 4 credit cards with my name misspelt before they got it right. And then tried to blame me for spelling it wrong on the application form :rotfl:

Anyway! I'd try calling their call centre a few times and see if you can get a sympathetic ear. It's worth a try.... I rang Orange 6 times before I found someone who would give me the upgrade package I wanted!
  • If the school is at fault and not paid him when they should, then you should make a claim against them for the rejected DDs. Why should you suffer if they can't get their act together, not being paid on time has caused you hardship, I am sure you must be covered in law regarding this. Contact Acas for some advise.
