MBNA Are they stalling or genuine ?

Hello all,
I applied to claim back PPI from a credit card with MBNA. The form came 'pre'ticked' for the PPI and after phoning them was told it was more likely that we would be accepted if we took out the PPI.
I sent the form to them on the 4th January this year, got a letter back dated the 26th January saying that they were investigating the complaint. Today (21st) I have received a letter stating that the investigations are taking longer than expected and they will respond by the 17th March.
Are they stalling or genuine? Has anyone else had dealings with MBNA on this subject?
Does anyone think I should send them a letter threatening to go to the Ombudsman unless they deal within 14 days ?
Thanks for your help. P

Hi,
I wrote to MBNA enclosing my questionnaire in August. They stalled my case and then in October 2010 they sent me a letter stating that they have put my case on hold as they are awaiting the result of the judicial review. I have not heard anything from them since, therefore I went straight to the FOS.
You could always give the FOS a ring and ask for advice as to what to do.
The choice is yours really. Wait for the result of the judicial review or contact the FOS.0 -
Hi,
I also made two PPI claims. Both with Natwest bank, one for a loan that I took out and the other for a Credit Card. I got a refund for £167.43 for my loan ( it was only for 1500, but I just received a letter stating that they had put my credit card claim on hold due to the October 2010 dispute. I plan on going to the Omb as they suggested that I could in my letter.
I just find it strange that they paid our for one and not the other??.....0 -
Hi there,
I recently received a PPI payment back from MBNA for finance I took out with them for an Apple laptop, in 2006.
They sent me a letter basically saying they are looking into this and will respond within 28 days, this period went by and another letter stating it would take longer than anticipated until finally I received a letter stating they didn't agree with my claim however would settle this plus 8% interest to resolve the issue promptly.
Funnily enough the paperwork I had automatically assumed I wanted PPI, I'll hold my hands up I didn't notice at the time as I was quite young however no explanation was given at the time regarding this.
I would get on the phone to them if I were you...0 -
Just a quick update to everyone complaining. Keep going....
MBNA were dragging their heels and not replying to calls or letters, I wrote to the FOS and within two weeks had a letter from MBNA offering £3500 refund, about 50\50 split between PPI premiums and interest.
Also succesfully got £1600 from Barclaycard and £200 from Capital One.
Just Citibank to go but that will have to go to the FOS as they are refusing to respond to any letters. Good luck all and remember, don't give up!0 -

MBNA were one of the worst organisation's for placing complaints on hold because of the banks legal action.
This meant that they created one of the biggest holes for themselve to dig themselves out of when the banks lost.
However, they do seem to be working through old complaints and quite abit faster than some organisations. :rotfl:
Even with the best will in the world its going to take them time but they'll get there in the end! Also, go to the FOS if they reject your complaint (hopefully MBNA will find in your favour though!).0 -

Isn't it absolutely ridiculous that we have to resort to posting on a public forum to try and find other people with similar problems with MBNA to get information!
With all the money they have earned from us in interest you would have expected a better service or a better means of mutual communication from them.
Be sure that if you are late with payments you are bombarded with phone calls from India from people who are difficult to understand.
IT IS MOST DEFINITELY A ONE WAY STREET!:mad:0
