What would you do if your dog was being attacked?

this happened to me a few months ago. I was chatting to a lady about her bull mastiff and she was saying he was having to go back to the shelter after a week because he wasn't settling at home. we had previously met and the two dogs had been fine.
next thing i knew he was on my collie x and she was screaming and panicky.
i started screaming and tried to pull her dog off of mine. the owner froze out of panic.
the owner seemed much more upset than I was, and I just kinda brushed it off and said, oh, my dog is a wimp and she will be fine. She did offer to pay for vet bills but I told her not to worry as it wasn't her fault. (The dog obviously knew something was up!)
took mine to the vet that morning and it was a really deep wound. vet left it open and said just to monitor it. gave her some pain killers and antibiotics.
personally, i took my dog straight back out that afternoon on our usual walk and tried to keep her routine as normal as possible. (though, did keep her on lead for the next few days!)
when we adopted her she was the biggest wimp on the planet and I didn't want to have to start all over from scratch again.
few months on she is now wary of mastiff-y type dogs and german shepards, but seem to be alright with everyone else... however, if we stop to chat to the owner for a bit she does eventually attempt to look at the dog instead of trying to look away and avoid the whole encounter.
i think i would have reacted differently if I hadn't of already met the person and the dog, and if the owner hadn't of been so appologetic about the whole thing.0 -

I was walking through the park, when this dog (large staffie/pit-bull?) went for my little rescue staffie.
The other dog was with a large crowd of teenage hoodies, who started laughing. They didn't have a lead for it, and seemed to think it was a good thing him being aggressive. Luckily the other dog got bored, so my dog wasn't hurt, but I was really shook up, and called the police. I didn't tackle them, as there were about 20 of them, although did so with a group of 5 once. Never had any problems after that.0 -

that happened to our dog a few tears back a little black terrier attacked our !!!!! and wouldnt let go hubby got bit in the process of trying to get the terrier off her, he knew if he'd kicked the dog it would of tore our poor little girl to bits, but i have to say the owner was mortified and came to our house and gave us some money towards the vet bill, she said she was going to get rid of the dog , she didnt, but it is always muzzled now, so fair play to her0 -

Padstow, just for the record, I've reported your posts. You may not agree with the points made but comments such as 'ghastly creature' and 'heartless creature' are without doubt inflammatory and unnecessary.
OP I've been lurking and following this since you first posted. I hope you find him a forever home soon, you've shown a kindness to this poor animal and hopefully Karma will play it's part beneficially for you too one day.

So not me.
I'd probably let rip at both dogs if they were both attacking one of mine. As I think I said earlier. But the odds are that such a situation would lead to a small dead dog and a larger injured dog.
I'm being honest - I'd wade in to try and save my pet's life. I can't make it nice, I may completely go to pieces and sob as my pet gets its throat ripped open, but in reality I believe that I would take drastic action to stop my pet being killed. It's not something to brag about and I certainly wouldn't be happy about it, but it's what I think I would do.
What the heck?
Is something strange going on here?0 -
