they could protect existing over 65 dla with a transitional relief
Much easier to just stop it and the name of the game is moneysaving. And if it continues I will be writing to my MP about this age discrimination. I really can't understand why someone could be thought more worthy to receive a benefit simply because of the age they were when they applied.0 -

I totally agree with you.
I am now wondering if this is the reason why a friend of mine who is the sales manager at a Vauxhall dealership is seeing a lot more 60+'s than ever before for their first Mobility car. Maybe hoping that there is a transitional relief when they get to 65.
It should be all or nothing at 65, you either can or can't have HRM.
If we can make enought noise about the injustice of some having it and others not, it might get picked up by the Daily Mail and create controvesy!!! LOL0 -
There will always be age discrimination with regard to benefit claims, I will have the full 30 years for a state pension in four years and my husband already has his so we have written to our MP asking to be payed our state pension now, I also want child benefits for my grown up daughter and the removal of all means testing for all benefits.0

Not really. The pension age is the same for ALL men and for ALL women. No arguments. Child benefits stop at age 20 for ALL children.
So why not have mobility benefits paid just to people under 65? I think this is one of the fairer benefit reforms.I don't think it was ever envisaged that people would still be claiming DLA for 20 or more years after retirement.
Don't forget child benefit and child tax credits are stopping for not even terribly high earners. Most of us are going to have to take a hit of some sort.0 -
Not read all the thread but at 65 you can no longer make a first claim for DLA, you have to claim Attendance Allowance. But, as your other half is already in receipt of DLA he will remain on DLA. The government are intending on re-testing all claimants of DLA that are of working age. Hence as your husband is now at the state retirement age he will not be re-tested.
The implications of discriminating against one set of people, ie working age, is yet to be seen.0 -

The plan appears to be to stop DLA at 65 whenever it was first claimed. People can then apply for Attendance Allowance but no mobility payments as there are none with AA.0 -
As long as you claim DLA before 65 you will still continue to receive the benefit when you reach the age, as long as you continue to qualify.0

Are you not following this thread?
The new proposals within the next two years will mean that ALL DLA claims will cease when you get to 65.
If you still need care you claim Attendance Allowance instead. There will be NO Mobility payments after 65!!0
