DLA and MOTABILITy over 65

DLA and MOTABILITy over 65
my husband is 65 next year
Ive just read that over 65 he will not get the HRM
currently he has a motability car.
Does that mean he will have to give it back
if it does he will lose his independence
I have n`t told him this yet
can any one advise?

  • if he has it already then thats fine its if he want for it after 65 you wouldn't get it well thats how i see it anyway
  • from what ive heard and read in the last few days some people have the idea that dla for the over 65s will be scrapped as part of the benefit review taking place,if thats correct then the over 65s will have to claim AA which has no mobility component
perhaps someone else could confirm or deny that ive heard right?

I think this is what the government intend. To treat all pensioners the same instead of how it is at present. Must be a step on the road to equality.

I have read up on this since I heard about it over the weekend.
Yes indeed it does appear that the government will be stopping all DLA claims as soon as they reach 65.

One side must be shock! Those with motability cars will have to give them up or at best pay for them out of a new AA claim.

However looking at it another way, it is going to make a level playing field for all. Some claimants aged 64 and 10months getting HRM for the first time currently have the right to continue that claim after 65. Those that are 65 and one month are barred from making a claim for mobility. That does not seem fair.

I am one for fairness and everybody having the same opportunities. So I will agree that this proposal is the right one for all. Some will lose out of course, but that is the price we will have to pay for equality.

This has me totaly confused.Does this mean that if you are already in reciept of DLA (Care & Mobility) before you reach the age of 65, then you no longer get DLA when you become 65?
It says in one of the posts that those with mobility cars must either give the car up or pay by AA.Could someone please clarify for me? TIA.

The government plan appears to be stopping all DLA claims at age 65.

Attendance Allowance can then be claimed for care needs but there is no mobility element to this so leads one to assume that mobility payments and motobility cars will stop at 65.

    Thanks for the reply.
If someone is eligable for Mobility before 65, how can they not be after 65? Is this definate or a proposal?
It doesn't seem right to me, to qualify for a car you have to be on the high rate mobility, so they's intending to reduce the DLA by £50 per week?

But no one is eligible for mobility help after age 65 so is it fair that some people get help after age 65 and others don't?

Seems like age discrimination to me.

Of course, they could introduce a mobility component into AA but that's as likely as a flying pig!
  • What about those that are over 65 now and receiving DLA mobility. I guess that will just be stopped as well? any idea when?
