Why are lots of apps free?

    Apps have been free for donkeys years, although interestingly i found 5 years ago that most symbian apps required you to buy them. Now of course apps can contain advertising, are brand extentions, are used by developers to test their skills, or to drive traffic

    There are some great apps out there, but bear in mind that you need to be very selective, the majority are pretty dire.
