The thing is that Plusnet aren't making much money at all by selling broadband for £6.49 so I can appreciate they need to save every penny they can but they certainly should have mentioned that charges would apply unless paying by DD.
The fact they have a UK call centre is to me worth spending more (I can't get the £6.49 deal where I live) - I know people have issues with Plusnet and others don't but at least I don't have to dread speaking to an overseas faint/noisy call centre and instead I can get driven to dispair by a pleasent Yorkshire person
I think other companies may slowly come round to realising that using overseas call centres may push customers too far, no offence to foreign call centres - if you stopped using the cheapest VoIP phone systems then maybe we'd be able to hear and understand them a lot better!
So any bets for when China becomes 'The call centre' of the world? - you know it must be coming.

You know it all boils down to this:
They have and do still advertise their price at £6.49 per month
The price they advertise is regardless of payment method
Its only when you sign up they notifiy you of the additional £1.50 charge
Whether cheap or not they are deliberately misleading customers.
If they had said to me sign up for twelve months at £6.49 as long as you sign up by direct debit I would have known exactly where I stand.
They didnt do that though. They said sign up for £6.49 by any payment method for 12 months.
Cajef I love you because you made me smile about something I was really stressed about and made me feel I wasnt being unreasonable.
I do understand to other posters that you may not be able to get this deal but its not my fault based on where my Mum lives.
Put it this was I only had to do this because my Mum lost her daughter in tragic circumstances and wihtin three weeks my Dad was diagnosed with liver cancer and we burried him three weeks later exactly to the date we burried my sister. I know that Plusnet didnt know that but they did not make things crystal clear either.
Why shoudl we as consumers have to second guess what they are selling?
Its like buying a car and then twelve months later the car salesman saying they need to charge you extra for the floor mats.
I think I've probably had my rant now so thanks to those who posted x I'm not sure that plusnet have the capacity and capability to resolve this one.
So much for dealing with Yorkshiremen!! Oops there we go getting myself into a whole load more trouble!0 -
Spannerzone - as someone who works in call centres in the UK I applaud you sentiment about UK call centres.
It isnt even about VoiP, it is about culture/knowledge.
No matter how intelligent people are there are some cultural/language issues that off shoring can't seem to move across.0 -
You know it all boils down to this:
They have and do still advertise their price at from £6.49 per month
The price they advertise is the base price which you are charged. You then have the option to pay by cc at extra cost if you choose.
Its only when you sign up they notifiy you of the additional £1.50 charge. Correct. They advise you of this if your preferred payment method requires the extra charge. It's a choice you make.
Your family's loss, and sadness, is tragic. But not really relevant I'm afraid.0 -
You know it all boils down to this...
No, what it boils down to is this....can you, or can you not...have the package at the advertised price?
YES, yes you can.
Your personal choice to pay for the service by method other than Direct Debit, is why you'll pay the surcharge. But you obviously knew that didn't you, by reading and accepting the Terms of Use before you agreed to the contract...?
Card payments attract a processing charge. Don't expect others that are paying by Direct Debit to subsidise your subscription charges.0 -
Virgin charge non DD payers £5 a month so Plusnet is still a bargin.0

Why don't you just cancel and take your business elsewhere?0
