Our local drycleaners told me that they often wash wedding dresses that are brought in for dry cleaning as the cleaning fluids can dissolve the beads and sequins on the dress.0

my sister has a bridal shop and sometimes the dresses do get marked (even though the shop is immaculate - customers and browsers often have grubby, greasy fingers!), she made a huge bag out of a net curtain and washes them in the machine in either Bio powder or soap flakes, depending on the material. then line dries them on hangers. she doesnt iron them- she has a steamer which works like magic on creases.0

why do people want to have bridle dresses cleaned? are they going to use them again? if they are dirty and the dry cleaning bill is horrendous then try cutting them up and making something else out of them, baby clothes for example., or net curtains.0

is a matter of personal choice isnt it? sometimes they get passed on, my sis kept her dress and headdress and 2 nieces borrowed it when they married, they all looked lovely... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

my dd moved in March, found out that they had had a leak from their bathroom which had gone through to the bedroom , wedding dress stored in a box under the bed had mold all over the front, DD was really upset and told her DH to take it to the tip, me and him had a conference and I ended up taking it home, went to local dry cleaners and explained situation, large patch of mold and mildew on front, went through all front layers to the back under layer, dress could not be dry cleaned or washed...spot clean only. Lady said she would try.
It was amazing, you would never know anything had been damaged, just a tiny bit of discolouring on the net underneath, tbh you have to know to see it, she charged £40 and best £40 we spent to see my DD's face when we took it to her....bearing in mind she thought it had gone to the tip!
She also cleaned all round the bottom, DD got married abroad so sand stains round the bottom, had a reception when she got home so normal grime from the floor too.
We were very impressed with the cleaning and the service TBH I would have spent more just to have got it cleaned for her. What she does with it now is up to her, if she wants to cut it up or save it for her DDs thats fine, am just glad my shop was able to 'make it better' for her, at a price I think was great!whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
