I've changed the itinery:-
LV from Sunday 5th to Friday 10th
LA from Friday 10th to Tuesday 14th
Virgin Atlantic flights for 4, 2 rooms (for 2 each) at Flamingo's in LV, and 2 rooms (for 2 each) in Baymont Inn and Suites LAX.
Total is £910 each.0 -
Hiring a car from Flamingo to LAX from Friday to Tuesday with Avis will cost £205 + $25 a day (so $125) for Young Driver. Thats for a Large Standard (e.g. Chevrolet Monte Carlo)0

I'm now looking at flights / hotels in Vegas. I've not been for about 10 months... and I feel the need0

I was going to suggest checking out the Orchid Suites in Hollywood but someone beat me to it! It has free parking if you do decide to drive or is very close to the Hollywood & Highland stop on the red line of the metro if not. My brother stayed there with a couple of his mates a year or two ago, was probably close to your age at the time, and was very impressed with the location. It's nothing fancy but reasonably priced and there are plenty of bars etc around that area to walk to at night.
The area around LAX isn't great and not much in the vicinity which you can walk to so I wouldn't recommend.
Santa Monica is a great place to stay but extremely pricey. I was however recommended this place by various people on Trip Advisor as a cheaper option, might be worth looking into:

Again it's nothing fancy but does get good reviews for what it is, is in a good location and includes free parking.0 -

Walk back and have dinner at the Cheesecake factory in Marina Del Rey (also a nice area). That can all be done in a day.
You have to make sure you do this on a weekend too. The beach is very quiet on a weekday, but packed at the weekend.
Drove to Malibu. Saw no one. All the beaches are private so you see the back of a house and that's about it!
PS - You are right. LA isn't my cup of tea. But if we were all the same the world would be a very boring place
This guy has been playing guitar and rollerskating his way around Venice beach for decades. He is but one of the many diverse and interesting characters in the vicinity.
Have breakfast here and watch the world go by.
Great pancakes, eggs and waffles. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
If you are feeling energetic, you hire bicycles and follow the cycle path up to Will Rogers beach. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

There is an excellent thread on here about PL by blindman, and before you do any bidding you would be well advised to spend time on www.betterbidding.com. I have stayed at the Hyatt Century City twice through PL, and know of others who have stayed at the Andaz.
I can honestly say I never experienced any 'low life' on the buses there. They were clean, on time and far cheaper than here. I don't see how you can even make such a judgment on the system, when in your previous post you state that it almost doesn't exist?
We used the bus to go to Santa Monica - quite an experience - I thought all the homeless were moving to the beach for the summer but most got off by Beverley Hills!! - a woman was eyeing the men up and gyrating/talking/laughing to herself - what was going on in that woman's mind. The bus was packed full with all sorts - but after saying that we preferred that to using the car. We used the metro also. Must say price was reasonable...0 -

We did this - some of us hired bikes and me and the two young uns roller bladed - only way I could stop was either fall over or run into the sand and then fall over. Great fun. There was a woman of about 80 on roller blades in the pub at the end of the day - I thought I would have been the oldest. Great day and loved Venice Beach - chill out zone..0
