Which router?

Could some kind person explain routers to me in words of one sylable please.

I have at the moment one laptop which is connected to an NTL modem. I now need to have another laptop in use.

So I understand I need a router, but which one? Are they easy to install?
What problems are there in store possibly?

Thank you in advance from a complete technophobe:D

Any router that is advertised as a "Cable Router" will do.

A semi trained lab rat can do it once they read the quick install guide.

If you read the instructions before you start, none.

Not quite true, some online games would probably require the opening of ports etc

Depends what the OPs going to use it for really

  • Thanks for that guys, no online gaming and I'm a totally non trained lab rat:D:D

So it will need to be mega simple.

Presumably you want a wireless cable router, if you want to use your laptop remotely?
Though I'm not sure if non-wireless routers are even still available these days, at least for consumer markets.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
