Is Santander a good move?

I'm currently with RBS for all my accounts but they give me rubbish intrest on my saving and nothing on my current accounts. Santander seem to be a good bank to switch to with their intrest on ISAs and current account plus the bonus for switching. However, looking around the forum Santander seem to be more hassle than they're worth!
Is it worth the money to get an apparently appaling service?

No, No, No a thousand times no.
I have been at the dark end of Santanders gross incompetency of two occasions, I wouldnt touch them with a barge polemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Santander is only ever a goods move if you want to deposit a sum and gamble on their ability to pay the interest. (In which case keep the Financial Ombudsman's details bookmarked .)
If you want a bank account to make transactions then look elsewhere.0 -
I wouldn't go back to Santander even if they promised me £100 a month for opening an account with them (well ok I might for that, but that would be a minimum and I'd want it for life!).Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0

Santander generally has the worst reputation of all the banks for current account provision. There will always be exceptions to the rule but they didnt earn the nickname "Shabby" for nothing when they used the Abbey brand.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). You do realise that Santander have purchased all RBS english branches and at some point this year you WILL become a Santander customer without getting the £100.
I am in the same position and will be going to HSBC at some point as I do not wish to become a Santander customer, mainly due to all the poor reviews seen on this and other forums.0 -
It's good to get the bonus by transferring the minimum, taking the bonus and then switching back whatever you moved over. Consider things like the faster payments limit for RBS and them telling you whether faster payments will be used to the £250 limit at Santander and them not telling you if it's going that way or not.
For online banking I find that I prefer the NatWest version to both Santander and First Direct.0 -
