Unreasonable neighbour says we're making noise - we're not!

The idea about seeing how loud the disturbance is for her is an excellent one. You have the right to make 'reasonable' living noise.... you can't be expected to whisper all the time.

When you go up, check her flooring too - if she has laminate or wood floors, then putting down a rug may help deaden any noise. If it is just a low background noise, then she needs to learn to deal with it and move on.

Ask her to turn her TV on, to see if you can hear her?

OP: as the reasonable and responsible citizen you so obviously are, I think you've got no choice but to bring this civil dispute to an end whilst simultaneously improving the environment.

So next time you carry out that bin, stick her in it.

My friend had a nightmare neighbour who was "sensitive to noise" and was always coming round complaining about the kids in the garden, her radio in the kitchen, their tv in the living room, etc etc. She posted a note through his door telling him that she was going to have a party on Saturday night and she was just warning him that it was likely to be noisy that evening. She had no intention of having a party but she just wanted to see what he would do. Sure enough, at around 10.30pm, the police arrived at her door after receiving a complaint of noise disturbance from the neighbour. (The police didn't say who complained but as there are only two houses in her road, she had a wild guess as to who it was )
When she let the police officers into her house, the only people there were her and her husband, her two kids were in bed and the dog was asleep in the corner. As there was absolutely no evidence of any party, the police knocked at his door and gave him a stern talking-to, regarding his "wasting police time!" :rotfl::rotfl:

Sound does transmit quite easily into flats above; I know that from experience!

A few years ago my neighbour had two cars written-off in an accident by a drug addicted driver who smashed into his parked cars. My parked car was also written off in the same accident.

Later I found out that the drugged driver was a close friend of my neighbours daughter but by neighbours had hidden this fact from the Police, the insurance companies and me.

So, I called the Police and told them and, guess what? Within seconds of my phone call finishing, my neighbour was banging on my door! She had heard every word I had said to the Police.

ultimately there is nothing they can do - I hate over-sensitive people when it comes to this sort of thing - just go up, knock on her door, have a chat, but carry on as normal and don't worry.
