nero 9 is used to burn CDs/DVDs
to play a DVD movie you can use windows media player or media center built into your computer, or you can download something like VLC player.0 -
I've got Ashampoo Burning Studio 2010 Advanced. You just have to sign up for the occasional newsletter, and untick a couple of boxes during installation. It is excellent software for free.0

Here is a list of Media Players and many are free, you will have to find which ones are good at DVD Playback.0

You could try Media Player Classic - Home Cinema
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
It's my player of choice and it will play practically any video format...."...IT'S FRUITY!"0 -
Try different ones yourself and see which you prefer. As well as MPC-HC there are:
SMPlayer
VideoLan VLC

Media Player Classic/MPC home cinema
KMPlayer or the newer PotPlayer
I don't know why anyone would use Windows media player. It's horrible software which likes to hijack all file extension associations. Absolutely vile!
Nero does have a media player and that can play DVD's. It's not just burning software and hasn't been for a very long time.0
