Thanks for all the replies.
My house is a two up two down terraced in an area that rarely gets burglars.
The windows and doorsl are solid upvc and great deterrent to burglars.
I dont like alarms, I was burgled in the 90's in a another area when i was married. spent a fortune on two alarms, first burglary smashed the box, second burglary they smashed the box again and dunked the box outside in water then found the second alarm unit in the loft where we had hidden it. Nobody responded to the alarm first time.
When I moved here i said to myself if they get in then i will get an alarm.
I have a security light, but the burglary attempt was during the day. New gate with lock is being fitted soon, then check the bulb in security light, then fit another light to replace the old one at the front of the house with a sensor on it to automatically light up.
My neighbours dont really look out for one another especiall the one next door who hates me.
I want the camera just for peace of mind over watching my car and any things i catch the nasty neighbour doing to my property. It will be placed high up just to cover my yard and car.
Police suggested a new blind on my kitchen window. Thats the first thing I will buy at the weekend.
I dont want a gate on my door, my door is very good as it is and it stopped them getting in. thats good enough for me.

Hi OP
I am an alarm/cctv engineer to trade, If you are going for an alarm then I would re-comend spending a bit of cash on it and getting a decent one, one of the cheap yale or similar wireless ones from b & q are terrible and you will have nothing but problems with them, and will end up having to get a proper one installed in the end up.
You can get a bells only system, where if the alarm goes off then the bell sounds externally, a self monitored one, which can also be called a speach dialler, voice dialler etc where if your alarm is activated it will dial pre programmed numbers and pass on a message informing that your alarm has activated.
You can also get a remote monitored alarm where your alarm is connected 24/365 to a monitoring station who informs keyholdersand police after an alarm activation.
As for cctv, I would advise spending as much as you can on decent quality equiptment as cheaper stuff wont last as long and will give you a much poorer image during the day and also at night.
if you need any more info or anything more specificlet meknow

Well the solaglas door man came and managed to secure my door. they are coming back to mold the plastic frame back to normal as the door is sound. He is going to resecure the lock again and it now shuts and locks no problem.
I have found a large floodlight and pir sensor in a box with wireless plug that also switches my lights on inside as a timer.
My dad gave it me years ago and i just left it in the box as he kept promising to install it.
The floodlight over my kitchen window just needs a new bulb and the other I will get placed further down the yard on the highest wall which will flood light my car and gate.
My gate is being re-fitted next week for £50, trimmed and new posts and lock and key with bolts on inside. Local friend is doing it and so I have decided not to have an alarm.
Im going with the camera next month which will be placed high up to watch over my car and the back street.
Ive had two alarms before at my previous property and they got ignored when i was broken into twice.
My shed is getting rotten now on the floor and sides so will eventually have to replace with solid plastic trunks with locks for putting spades etc and paints in.
today after the door was fixed i cleared out the shed a bit, put the bikes away locked in shed (bikes are quite old and need new tyres), took out the ladders and toolboxes and drills and socket sets and they are now inside the house.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230
