You need to put the claim through your travel insurance and see what happens. You will be required to complete a claim form and ensure that you answer the questions asked honestly. There is every chance that your insurers will contact your GP for more information anyway, so previous complications are likely to be disclosed to insurers.

    Not really.

The actual wording goes something like "In your opinion, was the claimant aware of the condition when they booked the trip?" (Or at least it has been on the three cancellations I've had to make over the past 15 years - the insurers I've had have all had very similar wording). If the OP's wife wasn't pregnant when then trip was booked, then the underlying condition wasn't really relevant at the time of booking.

It's highly unlikely that the insurance company will contact the GP for any more information if the claim form is completed correctly by the OP and the GP. The OP just needs to read through their policy and not put anything contentious or questionable on the form.
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."

I agree with Bouncy dog, there is a chance that the previous complications may have had to be declared to the Travel Insurer depending on the conditions and the Insurers wording.

If the conditions needed to be declared then it might cause a problem with the claim.

The OP's GP has advised against travel when pregnent due to previous complications. Someone without these previous complications would not need to cancel the trip on doctors orders. So there is a small chance it would have been declarable depending on the condition / insurers wording
