Pregnancy issues and cancelled flights - Please help

Hi Guys,

we booked flights to NYC for St Paddys day 2011 - since weve booked we have found out that we are expecting! which is great news - :beer:however due to previous complications the Doc advises my wife NOT to travel - especially via Airplane...

We had alot of complications before and this could be a bit of a miracle for us - fingers crossed - however loosing over £1500 aint so good - and with a potential new arrival we could do with hte cash...

So can any of you advise what to do next?

Would it be through Netflights who we booked it through or travel insurance - or as we paid by credit card - should i claim through them???

I imagine they would be receptive to our situation and we have a letter to supplement it from the DOc.

Many thanks for your help peoples...:A

You cancel it with the airline and claim the amount you've lost with the insurance company.

You'll need to get certification from the doctor.

    Hi,

It's also worth having a read through your Travel Insurance policy to check what's excluded.

Some policies exclude pregancy as a risk for example.

You'd normally do it through your travel insurance. If there were any issues then the credit card insurance is a good back up.

Speak to the airline first, they may offer a partial refund so your claim wouldn't be for 100% of your fare.

Ref the pregnancy - a lot of insurance companies don't cover for normal pregnancy issues, but as you've stated, the issue you have isn't normal, so you should be fine. You can't fly against medical advice. But as Tammer says, have a read through of the policy before you ring anyone. I was in the same boat a fair few years back and got all my money back.

    hi,

You can not claim via the CC, as the flight company will be able to provide you with the service (ie. seat on plane) .... but assuming you had the insurance before your OH got pregnant, then you should be able to claim on that .... call them.

Do you mean cc insurance - or are you thinking of s75? also did you declare your previous complications with pregnancy when taking out the travel insurance - I might not mention that, as they may decline the claim!!

Little bit of insurance fraud will load all our policies nicely. Great advice.

I am NOT telling the Op to lie - just not to volunteer the info .... if they ask, then tell them!

You need to put the claim through your travel insurance and see what happens. You will be required to complete a claim form and ensure that you answer the questions asked honestly. There is every chance that your insurers will contact your GP for more information anyway, so previous complications are likely to be disclosed to insurers.

Suggest you read the questions carefully and answer precisely what is being asked. Withholding information as has been suggested is really not adviseable, as insurers could take the view that this was attempted fraud.
