Rents need to lower.
Every penny not spent on basics like housing, heating. elecy, etc is a penny that can be spent in the wider econmy.

Maybe, but I was pointing out that supply and demand will soon mean that thos 40%+ of landlords who say they will no longer take LHA tenants will soon be priced into a re-think. The downward pressure on LHA rates by changing the percentile will have a huge impact on the entire housing market.0 -

We all have choices to make and many of them are financial. We may choose to miss a months mortgage payment because we needed the money to pay for an emergency plumber to fix the heating, we may choose to miss that credit card payment because the car needs a new tyre, I could go on but you get the idea. Why should those choices be denied just because you claim LHA? Isn't that what social inclusion is all about? Why treat those on benefits like little children?
It was predicted, when LHA announced payments to claimants not LLs, that chaos would ensue and the housing market would be brought to its knees as a result. The truth has been very different.
Sorry thats rubbish if someone earns their own money they have the right to spend it on what they want, yes it may mean stopping a mortgage payment or a credit card payment but it comes down to the fact that it's their money and their choice.
People who use others peoples money IE the tax payer in the form of benefits should use that money for the purpose it was intended for or lose it altogether.
Wht on earth should someone who lives within their means, pays their mortgage/rent payments on time and in full have to pay for other people to live rent free just because they would prefer to spend their housing benefits on anything other than their rent.0 -

So, those in receipt of child tax credits, or even child benefit, should be paid in mothercare vouchers? Perhaps you feel that pensioners winter fuel allowance should go direct to the energy company, that those claiming a mileage allowance should get halfords/shell vouchers, that child benefit should be paid in milk powder, etc etc etc. Perhaps pensioners should be given tokens to ensure they only spend their pension money on the thing YOU feel are acceptable.
You may wish to live in a totalitarian state, devoid of personal responsibility. But I don't.0 -

Thats a rather stupid argument.
Take child benefit, having a child means that there are hundreds of things a child needs, from food, heating, clothes even transport. So child benefits need to cover all these aspects.
Housing benefit is for one purpose and one purpose only its for HOUSING.
My Sister is on HB she has two kids and she is bringing them up on her own after her Husband died.
She is sometimes deperate for money but never has and never will use her HB for anything other than her rent payments, she is very critical of those who do.
So my opinion is based not someone who has her own house and 'is all right jack' but as someone who has seen first hand the struggles
of someone having to live on state benefits through no fault of her own0
