  • Those plug in things give me really bad headaches and ive known the glass ones to strip the gloss off my window sill when it got knocked over, how can anything that does that be safe when it is exposed? Even spray air fresheners are not safe!

So now you can all imagine the terrible damage it did to my friend's skin, after witnessing the various damage to paintwork, plastic etc.Skin is obviously far more fragile. This could affect my friend's ability to use her hands for the rest of her life. She has a family,a sick husband with a brain injury who cannot work, and cares for sick and injured wildlife, mainly hedgehogs. She is a wonderful person and i could cry for her when i see the pain she is in.

She should take it up with the manufacturers, I am sure they would be mortified to hear of the damage it has done to someone.

I'm sorry for what has happened to your friend, but the logic that you and other posters have with regards to the solvent damaging paint or plastic and hence being very bad for skin just doesn't hold true.

Water will ruin water based paints and can cause gloss paint to blister or peel. Acetone will ruin some plastics, but is used to remove nail varnish. Two plastics in contact with one another can cause both to be damaged. Coca Cola will clean a penny, but is fine to drink.

Further update. My friend has now had to go to a special burns unit to be treated. They have had to cut off her rings as her fingers have really swollen. She is on different tablets and creams and has to have her hand bandaged ,and elevated. It will take a long time to heal properly,if at all, because there has been so much damage to the tissues.

She has legal cover through her household insurance policy, and she is going to see a local solicitor as soon as they get back in touch with her. With all the photographic and medical evidence she has a strong case.I will keep you updated.
