extended family bills

My husband and I are considering joint buying a house with my mum. It could allow us all to have a lovely sized house and garden. We were just wondering if anyone else has done this and how they divide the bills. My mum and I are already in disagreement on how to divide gas and electric-I think she should pay a third and she thinks a quarter! We have two young children and she makes a fair point that she only does a clothes wash once or twice a week whereas we do four or five. But, we dont watch TV or want the heating as much as her, (or drink as much tea!) will be out a lot more than her, etc etc so I dont think we will be using a whole lot more. This doesnt sound like a good start really, but if we could come to an agreement that we are all happy with it could be great. Any ideas would be greatfully received.

5 people in the house, she should pay 1/5.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I think you should buy a house with a granny annexe on the side. She pays for hers and you pay for yours.
If the disagreements start here, where will it end for food, when to put heating on, decorating costs. the list goes on0 -

Your disagreements have already started. Forget it.0

Would you be expecting her to provide free child-minding services? Maybe a point of negotiation.

no, sorry, love my mum to bits but would never buy and share a home with her when i have a family too. the disadvantages would outweigh any advantages.0

if you can't agre now then there is no way this could work- I'd rather live in the poky-est of houses than the grandest shared with my mum lol!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
