Are you waiting till bf comes home to tell him, I wouldn't worry as much as you being together 10 months, when I was with ex, we'd met the end of Nov, less than 2 months later - that little blue stick (and the four others didn't believe it, thought got faulty batch!!).
Your be fine, I now have a gorgeous 8 yr old daughter xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Hi Hula girl - first of all, congratulations

Where to start?
In terms of medical stuff, it is probably worth informing your doctors sooner rather than later, so that you are "on the system". Don't be surprised if when you go and tell the doctor they just say "well done", make sure you aren't smoking, and give you some leaflets - that was about all I got - I don't think there is much else they can check for/do at this stage!
In terms of work, as others have said, you probably won't be entitled to SMP (you have to be employed 39 weeks before baby is due), but will be entitled to Maternity Leave, which means they have to allow you to have up to a year off, and have to keep your job open for you to return to if you want to. You aren't obliged to tell work just yet, but depending on what kind of work you do (and how straight forward a pregnancy you end up having!) you may want to tell them sooner rather than later. You are entitled to request a risk assessment, and it may be you need extra breaks etc as you get further along.
In terms of finances, although you won't be entitled to SMP, you would be entitled to Maternity Allowance from the benefits office while on Maternity Leave (not for the full year though), plus child benefit and (depending on your partners income if you are living together) tax credits.
You probably don't want to think about buying things for the baby just yet, but you definitely need to be saving up and maybe thinking about who you can maybe borrow things from. I think for now the main priority in your plans is living arrangements - at the very least you will be needing to have a big tidy up and declutter if you are anything like us!
Good luck with it all! And do go make friends on the pregnancy thread - best thing I ever did

Thanks to everyone who has given advice.
I realise i have lots to do, i will make a doctors appointment this week. Work wise it is very tricky as i am on a 4 week probation period (i am a nanny) so time off etc is going to be tricky but i will discuss things with them when i get past the 12 week stage and hopefully stop worrying about every little twinge. :-)
Living arrangements- well i need to discuss with my b/f about that as we had discussed moving in together around june/july time but might need to move before that now.
As i am not going to get smp (which is a real pain as i will lose so much money) I will start adding to my savings each month.
I have already told my mum who was great, she has been collecting stuff for the last 2 years (i had no idea) so has given me a huge box of baby clothes.
mum2one and plans_all_plans-- thank you for your support that makes me feel a little less scared to tell him.

Hulagirl, if you do a search on my old thread from Sept - it is identical to yours! I found out I was pregnant when my OH was on holiday and we'd only been together 4 months.
Fast forward 5 months, our little boy is due in 8 weeks time and we have moved in together.
We don't earn much between us and will struggle when I go on SMP, but I can honestly say its the best thing that ever happened to me and I can't wait to be a mum:D
let us know how u get on x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
If this was an unplanned pregnancy, then you should really start taking folic acid asap.
Don't lift anything heavy, smoke/drink etc and book into the doctors as soon as you can.
Congratulations on your life changing news

Congratulations

As others have already said you will find a way to manage. My son wasn't planned and at the time I wasn't working due to medical reasons and then due to the pregnancy I was unable to return to work until after he was born, my son is now 5 years old and I returned to part time work when he was 6 weeks old and full time work when he was 18 months old. Even though it was a big shock me and DH wouldn't have changed anything.
It is amazing how much everyone around helps out, there is always someone looking to pass on baby clothes and a baby only has to be as expensive as you want it to be. My pram/car seat cost £100 new from babies r us whereas my friend spent £700 on a silver cross!
Hope your pregnancy goes well.

Hi,
oh, and you might need coal and ice cream, for when you get hungry. :rotfl:0
