We were doorstepped today by a chap who was trying to get us to sign up for improved loft/wall insulation work. We have already had that done, a few years ago.
He then went onto say once the work is completed we can inform our local district council to get a reduction on our council tax, as our property would then be more 'energy saving'.
Is this correct?
Any advice gratefully received, as usual.

There's no scope in council tax legislation for reductions due to 'energy saving' works on a property.
Any reductions would be purely a local scheme at a councils discretion.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
A typical doorstep porkie, a good reason to... He then went onto say once the work is completed we can inform our local district council to get a reduction on our council tax, as our property would then be more 'energy saving'.

Complete lie.
Who was he working for? They need reporting to Trading Standards.0 -
Should think with the way council tax works, there's more risk of the council deciding that your improvements have increased the value of the house, so they're moving you into a higher tax bracket!0

The only saving would be assuming your cut down energy is money on your energy bills nothing more nor should it be

Why do people waste time talking to uninvited sales spiel at their door?
I just open the door, say politely, no thank you, if they don't sling their hook immediately then I use different language.0
