Specialist compliance team letter? Tax credits

Options
Has any of you had one of these random letters before? i thing they're random computer generated letters from Tax credits. It was from the specialist compliance team. asking if my single claim was right, and to call the number so i don't face penalties if they find anything when doing their checks, to make sure my claim was right. I rang and eventually got through, and asked was it some sort of renewal? as i'd always rang to update any changes etc...
She said no it wasn't a re-newal and went on to ask loads of personal questions such as am i in a relationship, were was my ex, did he give me money, did he have letters still coming here!! told her the truth and said to anyone i know personally, me and Neil being together was laughable at the moment!! She said they still have to check and these checks are the future. She said that'd be all, and i might get another check in a few months. So have any of you had one? the letter was quite agressive and i worry a lot anyway!!
And after your phone call did you hear anymore? im wondering what to expect next if anything?

I thought so, i thought i was under investigation or something. So thats that then? they wont find anything wrong here, i just don't need the hassle right now.
  • theirs a site called netmums and a money section on their alot of single parents have recieved them
  • We get them as well. Had one last year be for we renewed asking us to phone a specialist team that can help with "complicated" renewals. Needless to say spent best part of four weeks, obviously not continuously, phoning to talk to them. Never got through so renewed the usual way, went through ok.

Checked netmums and there is a lot on there, thanks. I wonder if its a new procedure or something under the new goverment?never had anything like it before, and a lot of people seem confused by it.

They must know I am not an attractive proposition to be in a relationship with (due to the boys problems), as they haven't sent me one!

Not sure whether to feel lucky or downright depressed :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I haven't had one before either, there was loads sent out in November too and i didn't get one then. Now my turn seems to have come... lol
  • It's just to ensure you are receiving the correct amount of Child tax Credits and Child Care Element of Working tax Credit.

Do you receive a large amount towards Child care? Is your claim for Child tax Credit particularly high? It's merely to check to ensure you don't receive notification of a large overpayment when you renew.

    NOT WORRY!!
  • No since being made redundant im claiming income support and child tax credit, and as im a single mum this was to question my single claim-is it right? sort of thing.
Just felt it was all a bit big brother, maybe it was just a shock because i've never had one before. Maybe if lots of people have had them or simular, these are just random checks from the Tax credit office.
