I wasn't there so it is difficult to judge.
If it was nice clean lady I doubt I would have noticed, just wouldn't think about it probably. If she was dirty scum I would have said no to the cake.

I cannot see why could you not refuse the cake if you felt disgusted by her actions? I think you need some guts (without wanting to upset you). I doubt they would ask for reasoning and if they did and you felt uncomfortable about saying why you could just say you don't like them chocolate/without chocolate or that you are on diet or whatever..

I would not force down my throat something that I find disgusting. There are ways of avoiding that.

I would politely say "No thanks". Another hate of mine is when someone licks their fingers before turing the pages of a book or magazine. Makes me shudder to think how many peoples saliva may be on the edges of library books.

Touching the food I could put up with...the licking fingers in between and putting them over the food is a step too far.

Not because I'm afraid of a few germs...I just don't fancy tucking into a cake with a saliva coating, so I would have politely refused. Yuk.

It grosses me out the way my MIL does when she is making soup - she tastes it with the stirring spoon then tips the remainder back into the pot and keeps stirring. I know I'm not going to 'catch' anything, it's just the thought thast disgusts me.

OP - buy the woman a cake slice for her next birthday/christmas present.:D

  • I am in no way a hygiene freak but I am amazed this woman thought her grim habit was acceptable. It is no different to her licking a slice of cake before serving it to you.

I think that's the problem here - that she clearly saw it as acceptable behaviour. I would have said, 'no thanks, seeing as it's been handled and has got saliva all over it now'. She needs to know that it's wrong.
