Also the last time I went shopping I had a big cry in the middle of town because I couldn't cope...lol. I was shopping for a coat. That's why I'm starting now...to reduce the pressure. I bloody hate clothes shopping.
:rotfl: sorry! Get yourself down to a vintage shop - classy drresses, something you can wear again and not show lots of cleavage etc.Bern :j0 -
Monsoon sale rack? Or if you live near Bicester Village (or similar) they have a Monsoon outlet store.0

I also think understated and classy is the way to go.
I think this is a lovely dress, especially if you are petite, you could wear it with nude court shoes. Oasis dresses can be a bit on the short side, but if you're only 5'4" it should be ok. I think you could dress it up with the right bag and jewellery for the prom, but it would be a versatile dress for your wardrobe too.

If you hate shopping, keep it simple, there's no need to build it up to be a nightmare!! Browse and order online with a credit card if you have one and try on at home or collect your online order from store where you can just go down for a short shopping trip and try on immediately and get a refund straight away if it doesn't suit.0 -
Another vote for vintage here particularly with your height and size, you really will be spoilt for choice. Do visit a shop or vintage fair to try on; or make sure you know your measurements and the returns policy if using the internet as I am a size 8-10 but take a 1950's 12-14. At a recent vintage fair I bought a gorgeous Jean Allen dress for £25 and do recommend fairs for choice and bargain prices. Just google vintage fair and your area and you should find some good results.0

this is really pretty - dorothy perkins seem to have a few in - if you click on dresses, then going out dresses, you can view them all

There are some nice evening dresses here:

They are all the dresses in size 8 in the Debenhams sale at the moment, not all special occasion dresses but lots of them are. Think there are some new codes around too - try on at home without the stress of the shops?0 -
Personally think this is gorgous

I wouldn't go for anything too bodycon, sounds like you could pull it off with your bodyshape but might not be suitable for the occasion.
Have you looked at anything like this: http://www.cemelondon.com/dress/_/cleo-black-one-shoulder-jersey-maxi-dress or http://www.freemans.com/Lipsy-Appliqu!-Shirt-Dress/productdisplay.stm?An=681&A=240112%5F8&N=426+4294965462+681+699+706+4294957320&Nao=48&Au=P%5FMasterItem&Nu=P%5FMasterItem&Ns=P%5FColour%7C0%7C%7CP%5FSize%7C00 -

This would be perfect! You'd feel comfortable not wearing something revealing, as you're a jeans gal; it's dressy enough to show you've made an effort; and you could wear it for many other occasions accessorised differently (staff Christmas party?)![0 -

I agree too, this dress is gorgeous, you could wear it with a pair of kitten heels, try ebay for shoes as you can pick up great bargains brand new, particularly if you won't wear them often. Have a look at dresses on there too, I've picked up some designer dresses almost brand new for under a tenner!Sealed Pot Challenge member 1315
