San Francisco pattern lock

Options
My son has locked his San Francisco android phone by forgetting his pattern sequence. It is asking him to log into his google account to unlock. He claims he does not have a google account. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Short of reflashing the rom, I don't think there's another way (he'd have had to opened a googlemail acc to use the app market if that help him remember the acc info?).
  • thanks for that. I will ask him if he has downloaded any apps and how he got them!

You don't need to flash anything, resetting the handset to factory defaults will fix it if he can't remember the password to his Gmail account.

Take note that a reset to factory default will put the phone back to the same state it was in when he purchased it (so contacts, messages, apps, etc are all removed).

How can you factory reset it with out being able to get past the lock screen?

Think the only way to get past the lockscreen is to re-flash it.
My sister has a wildfire and forgot the pattern lock, only way past it was to reflash it.

it was only a week old so there's nothing on it to loose.

Try calling the phone, then during the call, press the home button, go to the menu and you can disable the pattern if you can remember it, or wipe the phone from the privacy option.

I'm not sure if that loophole was closed or not.

If it was and you have a customer recovery, boot into that to wipe it (the stock recovery doesn't actually work :rotfl:)
  • can anyone tell me how to reflash the phone when the screen is locked?

Same way you flash it when it is locked, you don't even get the phone to the stage of the pattern lock :)

I did the same thing on the day I got my orange san fran.

    I nearly cried.

The modaco forum is the place to start looking for advice.

    I unlocked it by:
    a) Plugging in via USB
    b) turn it on, holding volume up... or volume down (check modaco!)
    c) installing the USB drivers and tools from modaco
    d) performing a "reset user data" over USB

This did a factory reset, without resetting the firmware.

Sorry for being non-specific about the names of the drivers and tools, as it was a few months ago now. PM me if you're still stuck and I will try to help. Although do look on modaco for guidance on how to reset user data.

one other thing, if the phone is asking for a google account, he's entered the details for one.

It would typically be his gmail account and password if he has one.
