I have decided to throw open a challenge to the MSE knowledge bank ... I am going over to Syracuse New York on 08 March and will be departing 20th April back to the UK.
I am looking for a long term car hire, not too much mileage will be done so if there is such a thing as rent a wreck I am up for that !
Best quote I have had is $660 per month but this excludes CDW !
which runs out at around $11.00 a day !
Over to you who love a challenge and can help a fellow MSE 'er

Ebookers can do £887.84 for the full six week duration of your trip. After 8% cashback if you book through Quidco, that's £834.57.0

£758 with Carhire 3000, including CDW etc (zero excess). 7% cashback via Quidco too. Also auto-europe at £747 with 8.5% cashback via Quidco.
Edited to add that your own quote allied with CDW etc insurance purchased separately at around £100-£110 might be cheaper - but only slightly and, if you need to make a claim, you will have to pay for it and reclaim through the insurance (with all the hassle that entails). http://www.moneymaxim.co.uk/compare-car-hire-excess-insurance0
