  • No more than in a water butt surely? And i presume you all know you shouldn't use water butt water on new seedlings until the plants are well established or they can die or get infections.

lihut i might have to ban you making me jealous with BBQs on the beach. It is so cold here at the moment. ;)

It's a new week folks, can't wait to see what we can all achieve.

Monday is always a fresh start, and I have started by requesting £35.35 from TCB this morning. :)

Michelle - I didn't know that about the water butt water on new seedlings, thanks for the tip. Not that we have a water butt yet but it's on my list.

    - £2 cp survey completed
    - £3.50 from CP for entering shopping

true enough about the water butt. Nothing worse than the smell of stagnant water :( if water butts have that problem it would put me off getting one.

My main contribution for today is cooking a yellow stickered joint of brisket that we bought for pennies in the post new years clearout. Bought a few bits of veg to go with it, but am mostly using up bits hanging around in the fridge. Will raid the cupboard for dessert too.

Found a 20% off dorothy perkins voucher which I'm hoping to use with my gift vouchers that OH got for registering his new phone, so that will let me update my work wardrobe and replace some of the tattier bits.

  • Our water butts have never gone really smelly, but i imagine that they could. I suppose it depends where you site it and how clean the gutters are. Ours comes off the garage, so i can keep it clear of leaves myself by standing on a short step ladder.

    So far today:
    • potty training DS2 again, so one nappy not used - 15p saved. I'm sure that will accumulate over the day.
    • read gas/elec/water meters and i am about to put into imeasure. Not doing great at reducing, but monitoring at least reminds me to think about it.
    • checked banking to make sure no surprises
    • know what i am going to make for tea, and got stuff as far as i can. (out of freezer.)
    • entered a toys r us FB comp to try and win some lego.
    • lost 2 Ib at weigh in, so more likely i will be able to get away with not buying bigger clothes
    • one full washload in using a mix of washing powder/soda crystals.
    • going to do some baking with the kids later so there are some goodies to nibble on.
    • about to request another £10 amazon voucher from shop and scan.

Why wold you keep a water butt?? If it to save money on water bills or is it an enviromental thing???

Today I am attempting to redo budget and seeing how low I can cut things like food...
We have an allotment so planning the things to grow this year as well... I will need to get a start on the seedlings pretty soon..

bit of both I think. For those people on water meters they can probably ill afford to use normal tap water for gardening purposes so rain water/ grey water (siphoned from down pipes from bathroom/kitchen) is a cheap way of being able to water the garden.

If we have droughts or hosepipe bans it means they can still water the garden too

See being in Scotland its not something I have ever come accross.. I have a waterbutt at the allotment that drains from the shed bt that is mostly because the tap is a good wander away and its easier for watering the tomatos :)

I drove DH's car to the garage for it's MOT, then cycled home in the rain! When the MOT is done I will be cycling back to the car. This saves two taxi fares!
