Did the 4 loads of washing I had today with free solar generated electricity and dried on the line.

Turned off the water heating and am going to rely on the solar to heat it from tomorrow.

Cooked all last weeks leftover veg to use or freeze over the weekend so nothing wasted.

This is my 'small things' list for the weekend:

    • Weekly shop (mainly at Aldee) came under £30
    • Bought some clothes for work but took them back as not 100% happy with them. I will need to get something at some point though as some of my work wear is beginning to look a bit scruffy so maybe not a win
    • Girls night out last night was cheap and under budget
    • NSD today
    • Didn't agree to go out for dinner tonight with DH and DS. We are eating what I had planned instead
    • Made DH go home for a sandwich after our walk rather than by snacks at the shop we were parked next to
    • Tonight's dinner is a pie using up some older veg and I'm stewing apple and rhubarb that needs using up for crumble and to freeze
    • DH decided to look into selling some stereo equipment that has been under our bed for a long time
    • Remembered I have an old iPhone 4 I can sell
    • Visited the area where we want to buy our new house which has motivated us to cut back and save even more
    • Made HM bread with prescription GF mix
    • Dried most of the washing on the line
    • All spends updated in YNAB
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

    • £63 to S&S ISA Pot (payments for the week brought forward as they would have allowed the purchase of a unit)
    • £145 paid to S&S ISA (One unit of Vanguard Life Strategy 60%)
    • Spending diary starts today

    Feeling skint!

super bargainous 2.5+kg lamb leg bought for £4.79! Roasted, ate my fill while it was fresh out the oven, then cut in to portions. Made 13 (plus my oven-fresh scoffing session :o ) so 5 are being eaten this week and 8 in the freezer.

Used the MFiT 'curry in a hurry' to make, err.. curry yesterday, so that was dinner last night with leftovers for lunch today and tomorrow.

Returned some clothes that I bought on a whim (for me and DS) and we don't actually need

Let us know how it goes. I have tried it but found on dull days there was no hot water the following morning. Now i have it set for the gas to come on at 7pm for an hour. This way it tops up if the sun has not got it up to temp. If it has then the thermostat stops it coming on. Best of both worlds.

First day was shocking weather so had to put on a top up for 15 minutes but today is looking good, was heating by solar when I left for work! I have a brand new megaflow tank so should be well insulated etc so im hoping for a good result.

I previously had water set to come on for 30 mins at 7am but 7pm is a much better option. If the iboost leaves us without water on a regular basis will try as you have it. thanks for the tip!

Yes you definitely don't want it on in the morning! That will mean the tank will be hot already before the iboost kicks in.

Am working from home today so that's no money spent on the tube.
Got leftovers for lunch and dinner so no spending there either!

Found lamb mince for less than half price yesterday which I'm happy about. Went straight into the freezer for a lovely shepherd's pie one day soon!
