Our usual budget is £275, which is two adults, a 10 year old 2 weekdays and every weekend, and a 3 (nearly) year old who generally eats more than the 10 year old but is in full time nursery so eats a lot of food there mon-fri (and is in nappies to the tune of £25 a month - but he's just this weekend refused them so hopefully this is over imminently!). Also the cat (£25 ish) plus household bits (cleaning, loo roll, tin foil etc).
This month things are tight so needs must.
OH pretty much eats only the following things: coffee, chocolate, coca cola, cake, chips, battered fish, deep fried chicken (but only breast meat), fish fingers (brands only) , sausage rolls, Heinz baked beans, Warburtons white bread, milkshake, muffins... um yep think that's it. The 10yr old eats a similar list but does have a wider variety but most of it needs to come out of a packet/tin/jar/freezer otherwise it'll just get pushed around the plate then binned. (Not my child, not my battle, I simply serve what will be eaten, with hidden goodness if possible and undetectable.)
So I have their food (Birdseye, Heinz et al) and our food (me and the toddler). As I said, toddler eats at nursery (including main meal at lunch time) so really the only person who eats 'proper' food in any quantity is me. So while I can get some economies of scale, not really because we don't all eat the same things.
Potatoes are a good one, local shop is £2.75 for a 5kg bag or £3.99 for a 20kg bag. And that's fine because that's chips for OH, chips and mash for the kids, and various for me. But now you've put me on the spot I can't actually think of anything else we can share. As an example, I'm gluten intolerant so have my own pastas, plus normal pasta for the toddler, and OH and 10yo don't eat pasta.
So then in answer to your question...um no not reallyI do buy bulk where things will last (ingredients for me I mean), and batch cook and either eat the same dinner 3/4 days in a row or freeze some.

Brought my OHs gluten free bread directly from the bakery cost of 31.49 for 10 loaves, 10 rolls and 2 jam donuts. Saving about £15 on buying them locally And will pop them in the freezer!

Do you find that economies of scale come into play when you're feeding the family (i.e. a 5kg sack of potatoes doesn't cost much more than 2.5kg etc.)?
I budget £400 for 6 of us - 2 adults, 2 hollow-legged teenagers and 2 primary aged children - 3 are confirmed carnivores with meat being consumed usually twice a day. If he already knows the outcome, I assume that he is using two bookies for the offer, as opposed to a bookie and an exchange?
Those of us using the exchanges won't know how much we're making until the match starts this evening0 -
