Kidcat, maryb and mardatha - wishing you all well today:)

Am about to start detaching myself from my house,I didn't realise how much "stuff" had wormed its way back, lol.I just need to keep enough clothes and toiletries for workdays but truth is,it still feels like my home:(

Enough of that!!!!!! My flat has a fan oven which works fine but whenever I try to use the grill the smell is horrendous:eek: I've tried heating it to burn off anything that might be on it but that hasn't worked.Has anyone had - and got rid of - this problem?
I don't know what to use to try and clean it:undecided

maryb really sorry to hear that you've put your back out; it's the pits at any time but at the start of the gardening season it's the last thing that you need.

I'd suggest sowing a row of beetroot (assuming this is something you eat) about now, the first of a few successional plantings, and some salad leaves. You might also want to think about early peas.

Other than that, I think I'd just pootle on and concentrate on getting well. I have a full sized lottie, half-a-job and ME for 20+ years so I'm never exactly where I want to be in the allotment calendar so just have to do my best and leave the rest IYKWIM.

My own stragegy has early tatties (under fleece as we're still having frosts and will for at least another month), broad beans and strawbs on the go, plus just sowed beetroot, mixed salad leaves and some flowers (marigold and cornflowers) among the veggies. Have spring and red onions too. Peas are undercover and will be until tall enought to twine otherwise mice steal the seeds and blackbirds peck the edges of the leaves into scallops. Have got various squash in greenhouse to go out much later.

I'm still clearing ground so the cultivated area is gradually extending into the "rough" and I had a passing compliment from a surly teenager on the street that the plot looked "not bad" so must be doing something right.:rotfl:

Ceridwen I un-mutinied myself long enough to scrub my kitchen sink and my stainless steel stovetop kettle before I went to bed last night (circa 9 pm :o) and feel much better for it.

Hope everyone has a good day and their share of the yellow ball.

Mardatha - could you please PM me a link to the MS and sunlight/vitD study? My OH has severe MS and takes vitD and a whole host of other vitamins/minerals so we'd be very interested in finding out more, in the hope that we can alleviate some of his symptoms.

    Hi all

Well yellow ball is still up in the sky - woohoo! we don't see it very often in Wales so am making the most of it - washing has just finished so will put that on the line in a bit. Holly is snoozing, Ben is playing in his bedroom and Im chilling in my PJs still.

Plan for today is - more washing and cleaning, may take Ben to the park for an hour or so about lunch time, then off to get his mop chopped - its ridiculously long now so needs doing. Then home to chill out.

I did treat myself last night and brought Harry Potter and the deathly hallows (part 1) on V+ movies last night which cost me £3.99 - then realised its like £7 in Tesco - oh dear - although think I may treat myself to it with this shop as I never buy myself anything and I absolutely love harry potter. Besides which I need to screen it for Ben - being that I watched the half blood prince with him yesterday and the first line harry spoke was 'hes a bit of a to@ser really':eek::eek::eek: yes thats exactly the kind of language I want my 6 year old learning. Can just imagine him using that sort of language in school and the teacher telling him off to the reply 'well harry potter says it!' ---- so no I'll proof screen the language first!

Other plan for today is look into home made finger foods for Minnie. She is loving her meals but whilst I do have a baggy thing - its like a fine net bag you can put biscuits etc in to stop baby getting big chunks in there mouth but instead they have to gum it through the net - but I think she needs to be able to properly chop on something now her teeth are coming in so will be looking for some ideas later.

Speaking of teeth - many of you will remember Ben's bashed tooth/abscess in school saga last year. Well as we were watching Harry potter yesterday he turned to me and said 'mum you know those bubbles in your mouth......', so checked his mouth and he had two white lumps next to the tooth that was bad last time - so queue me rushing him to the dentist at 4pm last night, to get him checked. He's had no pain, toothache or even complained when I've brushed his teeth. Anyway spoke to the dentist who explained that when he had the abscess last time, he had antibiotics which would of killed the nerve and subsequently the tooth/root too. Well she said that once it had cleared, there must of been residual stuff left there that was now infected and that the tooth hadn't taken the filling correctly and there was a hole but no obvious damage or loss of his filling. So she gave him more antibiotics, removed the filling and said that because of the gap it had been draining and that was why he'd had no pain. Then she said to let the antibiotics do there thing, and if it doesn't seem to go then he may need to have his tooth removed. (he forever has problems with this one tooth) but I said if it does settle down, does he need to come back to have it refilled, and she said no to just leave it open..........effectively now leaving a big hole in his tooth........how is that going to help????:(

Think I need to take out shares in our dentist. I have bad teeth and so I'm hoping Ben doesn't take after me!
    Time to find me again

Ahhhh my very long post vanished. So now a summary, sorry I`ll have to miss out the `chat` bits

I am still here and read all your posts and feel for all of you, sometimes sad but mostly happy. Like my self supporting peas with tendrils wrapped around each other :grouphug:

I am taking part with dh in the grassroots d`action study and have been sending blood samples for 2 years with 3 years to go. Levels have risen from a very low 18 to now 52, the number should be between 40 and 60. I take 7000 D units (cholicalciferol) and dh takes 5000. I have never felt better and the only aches I get these days is from digging in the allotment. About time the population was informed. Even lamberts now sells higher dose D (I was a practitioner so have an account) but we get ours from iheb in the US. It is called now foods and I order 5000 and 2000 sizes. Very quick delivery and no tax as I never go over $28 worth.

Am very busy with allotment these days and my very hot back garden, now all gravelled. We shifted 8 tonnes into it last year and have different colours on the different levels. Loads of pots and hundreds of small baby plants and seedlings so I potter all day long. The back is very hot and dry and it is 3m from the base to the highest level and we are surrounded by orchards and sheep with lambs. Housework takes a back seat and so does the internet :)

Thank you so much to everyone for the cyber hugs. I feel pretty OK today but I will take it easy for a day or two to let the inflammation subside.

My osteopath is wonderful!! She doesn't really crunch me any more because I have osteopenia (for which I take Calcium with - guess what? - Vitamin D) but she still manages to get me mobile.

This is the first time my back has gone since I retired nearly two years ago, it makes such a difference not sitting at a desk for hours. So I've been pretty lucky really.

It will be nice when DH retires as well so that if we have a day when we can't do what we planned we don't lose a whole week before he is free again. He works such long hours that it simply isn't feasible to do anything in the evenings even with the lighter evenings so if it's something that's physically too heavy for me we have to do it at the weekend.

When we were going through our really tough times it seemed such an unattainable dream for either of us to be able to retire a few years early. But provided we are very careful I think he might also be able to retire a bit early. There is nothing material that I could have that means as much to me as my freedom. DH likes the finer things in life a bit more but once retiring early gets closer to being attainable I think he will not need to console himself so much for working in a stressful job

LOL just seen a snippet in the paper that lack of Vitamin D is responsible for men snoring. It causes poor muscle tone in the throat.

I'll try anything!!!! If it works it really will be a miracle vitamin!

Lovely to hear you are doing so well kittie, all this talk of vit D makes me wonder if we should try it. I hate dentists - they have always been a major phobia so attending is always very stressful - managed to get an appointment earlier by begging, arrived to an empty waiting room - yet I had still had to beg to get appointment - no-one in before me either - dentist says its infected and gives me strong prescription of antibiotics - then says tooth needs to come out make another appointment. I go to reception and next appointment is end of MAy:eek::eek::eek: I asked whether I couldnt come back sooner as I was concerned of a re-infection and she says its ok dentist has put a note on file - if it flares up again just give us a call and we will issue you more antibiotics:eek: - surely it makes more sense and costs less to simply fit me in and remove it sooner??

OH off work today so I have him out putting washing on line and then he will have to start sorting out kitchen. Popped into Asda on way home to grab something he can cook for kids dinner - and a lady was marking a rail of clothes down - all items £1.50:j so grabbed a cardigan for me and DD16 and a skirt and dress for DD16.

Have got all the Easter pressies sorted except for my parents who dont eat chocolate - and teachers (where has the rolly eye smiley gone??) and still got dinner for Sunday to organise (Oh at work so just cooking for 8 this year) so if anyone has seen any good deals on whole Salmon (I fancy breaking with the usual roast dinner tradition - besides the oven will not manage roast for 8 people ).

And:j:j:j:j:j I received a text saying our full mortgage offer has been issued today - valuation all done and sorted - so all we need is the other end to start rolling and we are done. Coming from a history of terrible debt I can honestly I never thought we would get to this point so I am quite overwhelmed although that is probably due to lack of sleep as well:rotfl::rotfl:

Sending some sunny hugs to everyone and hoping that we all get to see lots more of the yellow ball this week.
  • Thinking of getting rid of some of our excess stuff at a carboot sale this weekend. Does anyone know of any good boot sales to go to in Cheshire?
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
