hic! Parsnip is usually best made as a sweet wine, its quite aromatic - earthly with slightly spicy tang (not parsnippy though!) goes nice with fruit cake or cheese. Carrot is best made as a sweet wine too - seems to be richer and heavier than parsnip - lovely for cold evenings or as a desert wine. Over the years, I've tried them all - Dad made a nice pea-pod wine! Try trawling the charity shops for a copy of C J Berrys book 'Making Wines Like Those You Buy' - not a very catchy title and very old fashioned but stuffed full of recipes - we've not made a bad one yet...the sherry from tinned peaches and the blackcurrant wine from Ribena were particularly good....and ...ermm..cheap
C'mon live recklessly! Give 'em a whirl!they don't turn out tasting like the veg that they have been made from.....
Ooh I will second this. Try parsnip and orange (think the recipe came from one of the 'right way' books ) its lovely, a bit like sauternes, definitely a dessert wine. Tastes absolutely nothing like parsnips :rotfl:SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)0 -

Missed ya - not that I have been around much myself but back now
Sorry to hear about your hand/wrist... I got RSI a few years ago from working long hours at a computer - it was horrid. Hope I never have to go back to FT office work ever again  Mind you, I am almost as bad at home on the laptop so I should be careful too!!! Anyway, good to see you

Sainsburys have their own website and you can check out the special offers on line - Lidl and Aldi too

I try to have a big shop day once a month and do a round trip of all the local supermarket to get the offers from eacha bit labour intensive but if you can get a visit to Farm Foods in as well - its well worth the effort . . . . comfortable shoes a must though

Someone mentioned Jam thermometers earlier. Last time I made jam I didnt need one. A good os way to see if your jam is at setting point is to keep a small plate/saucer in the fridge and after the jam has been boiling for 5 mins or so put a small blob on the cold plate . Leave for a min and a skin should form and wrinkle when you push it (then the jam is ready)..if not wait a few minutes and test again. Found this site that has some good tips.

If you go to My Supermarket
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/shelves/Top_Offers_in_Tesco.html
you can bring up the current top offers at Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda and Ocado all on the one site.0
